Reminiscent of the early days of Fortnite, Epic Games are preparing to put on a Blast Off in-game event. The mode will stay true to its OG roots, while continuing to develop the story in this new era.
Fortnite is known for putting on spectacular live events, usually to transition to the next season. Whether the OG playlist or regular battle royale is your main mode, you’re going to want to see how the Blast Off live event changes the course of Fortnite.

An explosive return to the OG days
During the very first live Fortnite event on June 30, 2018, a rocket shot off into space from the Villain’s Lair. However, not everything went to plan, as the rocket then locked onto Tilted Towers, only for its impact to be blocked. This introduced Fortnite players to rifts, a core mechanic still in the game today.
The description provided by Epic Games of the Blast Off event is as follows: “In the aftermath of the meteor, a mysterious figure has been seen around the Island, followed everywhere they go by murmurs of rockets and secret lairs. As Chapter 1 Season 4 progresses so too will the story of The Visitor — and it all seems to lead back to the rocket launch that changed the Island forever.”
Could the original rocket return by rifting back into the current Fortnite timeline? With the Blast Off live event taking place less than two weeks before OG Season 5, perhaps the Cube will make a comeback, since Season 5 saw it land on the island and begin rolling around the map.
All will become clear when the Blast Off live event takes place on:
- July 26 at 11am PDT
- July 26 at 2pm EDT
- July 26 at 7pm BST
To get involved, make sure to log into Fortnite at least 30 minutes before the event is scheduled to begin to secure yourself a spot and avoid potential server queues. In the Discover tab, there will be a dedicated playlist for the Blast Off event which you can queue into solo or in a party with your friends.
