Buried deep underground Vatican City in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a network of catacombs that players will be tasked with exploring. Among the dead is a coffin surrounded by statues that seem to be ready to hold a tribute to the buried. Players might just walk past this area but there is actually a secret puzzle here that rewards those with enough curiosity and intuition with one of the game’s most powerful weapons. This guide will show players how to complete the Vatican City Underworld Flame puzzle in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
How to Solve the Vatican City Underworld Flame Puzzle in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
The Underground Flame puzzle’s solution comes from the Strange Inscriptions found across Vatican City. You will need to take pictures of all of these inscriptions for the Secret of Giants Fieldwork quest. After you have taken photos of all the Inscriptions, go to Father Antonio’s office to put them up on a corkboard.
You will notice that each inscription has a circle at the bottom that is either empty or has a candle in it. This is how you find the solution to the puzzle. The photos aren’t in the right order so find the right order by following the story told by the inscriptions. Here is a breakdown of which photo corresponds with each lantern in the underground.
- Photo 1: Lantern 6
- Photo 2: Lantern 2
- Photo 3: Lantern 1
- Photo 4: Lantern 8
- Photo 5: Lantern 3
- Photo 6: Lantern 4
- Photo 7: Lantern 9
- Photo 8: Lantern 7
- Photo 9: Lantern 5
- Photo 10: Lantern 10
Now that you have all the photos, go to the underground part of the Tower of Nicholas V. Go past the Sacred Wounds Puzzle and find the crypt in the northwest corner of the area. There is a circular room with 10 skeleton statues that are holding lanterns that can be turned on and off by interacting with them.
The statues go from 1 to 10 starting at the left and going clockwise around the room. Here is what you need to set each lantern to:
- Lantern #1: On
- Lantern #2: Off
- Lantern #3: On
- Lantern #4: On
- Lantern #5: Off
- Lantern #6: On
- Lantern #7: On
- Lantern #8: Off
- Lantern #9: Off
- Lantern #10: On
With all the lanterns lit accordingly, the coffin in the center of the room will open, revealing a jawbone melee weapon. This is the most durable weapon in Vatican City with a massive 20 hit points. This can be used to decimate any enemy in the city that tries to step to you.
