How to Unlock All Esquie Abilities in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
To unlock Esquie himself, you will need to progress through Act I of the story until you reach Esquie’s Nest. Here, you will meet the hero of legend. You will need to defeat the Francois boss fight found in this area. Returning to Esquie to give him the stone that Francois had. When you leave the area, you will unlock Esquie. You will be able to ride atop the creature to move quicker around the overworld as well as break through rough terrain to reach previously inaccessible areas.

Swim
The Swim ability will become available after completing Act I. You will need to make your way through the Stone Wave Cliffs and defeat the Lampmaster boss fight. Once this boss is defeated, there will be several story-critical scenes that happen back at camp. Once you return to the overworld in Act II, the Swim ability will become available. This will allow you to traverse the ocean while riding atop Esquie.

Swim Through Coral Reefs
Swimming through Coral is made possible after you finish Old Lumiere and defeat the Renoir boss fight in this area. After returning to camp and then going back to the overworld, this ability becomes available. This allows Esquie to break through the giant coral found in the water, creating new paths to swim through.

Fly
Fly is made available after you defeat The Paintress. This will bring an end to Act II. Progress through all the story content following the boss fight until you return to the overworld. This is when Act III starts and you gain the ability to Fly. As the name suggests, Esquie can now take to the sky, allowing you to traverse the whole map very quickly as well as reach all new areas to explore.

Underwater Diving
The final ability is part of Esquie’s Relationship Level. You will need to get Equie to Relationship Level 6. This becomes available at the start of Act III. You will need to defeat Francois once again. Once you do, you will watch a cutscene back at camp and the ability becomes available. You can now go to bubbling areas in the water and gather supplies found underwater. It also grants you access to Renoir’s Drafts, an underwater area that leads to the game’s super secret endgame boss. When you get all of the abilities, you will then unlock the Plane, Train, and Submarine Achievement and Trophy.
