For a majority of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the highest damage number that a single attack can do is 9,999. Early on in the game, players will have the chance to test themselves by trying to hit this massive number against a Gestral named Ono-Puncho. Players that are able to complete this challenge and reach the maximum damage threshold will rewarded with a new cosmetic that everyone will want to get their hands on. This guide will show players how to beat Ono-Puncho in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
How to Beat Ono-Puncho in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The Ono-Puncho encounter can be found in the Gestral Village. Go to the side of the village opposite the entrance to find the arena. Face the arena and turn around to see a destroyed archway. Go through this archway and follow the path to find a pink Gestral. This is Ono-Puncho. Talk to him and he will task you with dealing 9,999 damage in a single strike. When you accept this challenge, the battle will start.
You can complete this quest whenever you want, so if you want to come back when you’re stronger, you can. You are able to beat this challenge the first time you visit the Gestral Village if you have the right abilities, party composition, and weapon. The most important thing you need is the Medalum weapon for Maelle. You can get this weapon by either completing the Arena tournament with Maelle or by defeating Golga as Maelle. This weapon is key to getting the 9,999 damage because it starts Maelle in Virtuose Stance, giving her a 200% damage bonus. You will also need Sciel in your party with the Fortune’s Fury Skill. Sciel will join your party after completing the Arena tournament. The Fortune’s Fury Skill will double the damage of a selected part member’s next turn.
A few other tips to make sure you hit the 9,999 mark are to equip the right Pictos. I suggest putting any of the Energizing Start Pictos on both Maelle and Sciel to get a few extra APs at the start of the encounter. I also suggest Marking Shot for Maelle. This Pictos will give you a 20% chance to apply Mark to an enemy by using a Free Aim shot. Since the move Maelle will use only cost 2 AP, you can use any remaining AP to try and Mark Ono-Puncho to get some extra damage.
Make sure Sciel goes before Maelle and use Fortune’s Fury. You can then also use Intervention on Maelle to give her 4 AP and immediately give her a turn. From here, use extra AP to try to apply a Mark and then use Piercee. This should lead to you getting 9,999 damage.
When you are able to hit Ono-Puncho with 9,999 damage, you will be rewarded with the Sakapatate Outfit for Maelle.
