Silent Hill 2 Remake takes the Briefcase Puzzle from the original game and makes a few changes to it. To find the code to open the Suitcase in the 2024 reimaging, you will also need to complete the Vanity Mirror Puzzle which takes players all across the hotel. How to Solve the Lakeview Hotel Suitcase Code and Vanity Mirror Puzzle in Silent Hill 2 Remake
The Suitcase Puzzle is found in Room 205 on the 2nd Floor of the Lakeview Hotel. Reaching this room requires you to find a key that leads to the east wing of the hotel as well as complete a separate puzzle found in the Reading Room. The Sunshine Wing Key can be found in the Utility Room in the southeast corner of the 1st Floor. Take this key up the stairs in the Lobby and use it on the door to the right of the stairs to enter the Sunshine Wing Key.
The Reading Room is the first door on the right in the Sunshine Wing. Inside here is the Bookshelf Puzzle which will open the path to Room 205. For a quick overview, pick up the 4 books found around the room and then put the book with the symbol of Wings on the spine in the top left slot of the Bookshelf. Put the book with the Bull symbol in the bottom left slot, the Lion book in the bottom right, and the Eagle book in the top right. This will move the Bookshelf out of the way and lead to Room 205.
Inside Room 205 are the Suitcase and Vanity that these puzzles revolve The Vanity has a broken red light Bulb that must be replaced to learn the 8-letter code to the Suitcase. There are 3 photos around the room that give you hints as to where to find items needed to replace the light bulb. You will need a Can Opener a Paint Can, and a Light bulb to complete this puzzle.
Let’s start with the Can Opener. Leave the Reading Room and jump across the counter on the other side of the hallway to enter the Cloakroom. Enter the Hall to the left of this room and head out onto the balcony to the right. Go all the way to the far end of this balcony and jump through an open window into the Nurse’s Office. This will allow you to explore the west wing of the 2nd Floor. Take the staircase near the Nurse’s Office up to the 3rd Floor and then go to the southwest corner to find a staircase that allows you to explore the bottom left corner of the 2nd Floor.
Once back on the 2nd Floor, go through the first door on the right to enter Room 207. Look out from the balcony to see a book sitting on some broken glass. Shoot the glass to get the book to drop to the room below.
Head back down to the 1st Floor and enter Lake Shore Restaurant. The book will be sitting on top of a box. The box is hollowed out and inside is the Can Opener.
Now it is time to get the Paint Can. At the top of the staircase that leads to the 3rd Floor is the Conference Room which has a fireplace with the Cinderella Figurine inside. You will need to get this item to reach the room with the Paint Can. Next to the fireplace is the Room 107 Key. Grab this key.
Room 107 is found in the bottom left corner of the 1st Floor. Use the key to open this door and then head out the open door to enter the east part of the Lakeview Hotel Garden.
The Fireplace Key is found in the gazebo of the Garden.
You can now open the fireplace in the 3rd Floor Conference Room. When you do and get the Cinderella Figurine, the monstrous Mandarin enemy will burst through the wall and attack you. You don’t need to fight this enemy. Go to the opening the monster created to enter Room 316 and push a dresser out of the way to reveal a weak wall. Break down the wall and squeeze through the opening to escape the Conference Room and enter Room 317.
There is an open door that leads out to the balcony of Room 317. Use the balcony to enter Room 318. The Paint Can is found on the coffee table in this room.
For the Light Bulb, you will first need to get Boltcutters from the 3rd Floor Utility Room found to the southeast of the stairs.
With the Boltcutters acquired, go back to the front entrance of the Lakeview Hotel and go to the gate that leads to the west side of the Garden. The entrance to this area is a gate locked by a chain. Use the Boltcutters to unlock the gate.
Pass through the gate to find a statue of a fish with the Light Bulb in its mouth.
Now its time to start Combining these items. Use the Can Opener and Paint Can to open the can and then Combine the Open Paint Can and Light Bulb to create the Red Light Bulb.
Head back to Room 205 and put the Red Light Bulb in the Vanity. This will reveal the code for the Suitcase, though the code will be different depending on the Puzzle Difficulty you’re playing on. Here are all the possible Suitcase Codes:
- Light Difficulty: DARK WISH
- Standard Difficulty: DEED DONE
- Hard Difficulty: LOVE LUST
These codes will be the same every time you play on their given difficulty so you can skip the Vanity Mirror Puzzle and just enter the code to help with your speedruns! Inside the Suitcase is the Employee Elevator Key which will allow you to reach the basement of the Hotel.
