For the opening hours of Silent Hill 2 Remake, you are limited to using a plank of wood as your only way of fighting back against the town’s monsters. While serviceable, especially with the new Dodge mechanic, the best way to deal with these horrors is from a safe distance with one of the multiple guns that you can find. How to Get the Handgun in Silent Hill 2 Remake
The Handgun is found in Room 217 of the Wood Side Apartments which is unlocked after completing the Jukebox Puzzle and finding the key to the building in the the nearby alley. Once inside, you will need to first find the Chute Courtyard Key in Room 202. This is the same room where you will find the Flashlight and be introduced to the Mannequin enemy. Open a drawer in the corner of the room next to the Mannequin to find the key you need to progress.
Return to the first floor and go to the right of the building’s entrance. At the end of the hallway going north is the door that leads to the Chute Courtyard. Use the key to open the door.
Once out in the courtyard, look to the northern wall to find a box that can be moved. Take it to the window that leads into Room 112. Climb onto the box and through the window to reach the northeast portion of the Apartment’s first floor.
Go into the hallway outside Room 112 and then go to the right. At the end of the hall, turn left and go all the way to some bars blocking the path forward. Interact with a key on the other side of the bars to have a cutscene start that sees a little girl named Laura kick the key away as James tries to reach for it.
Unlock the door to the right of the bars to return to the courtyard and go back to the Chute Courtyard door. Once back in the front lobby of the apartment building, go to the right and there will be a doof that leads into the southeast part of the building that is now unlocked. Follow the hallway all the way to the end to find the key that Laura kicked. This is the 2F Hallway Key.
With the key acquired go back to the staircase and head back up to the second floor. Once you enter the second-floor hallway, go left and unlock the set of double doors with the 2F Hallway Key.
Once through the door, go to the end of the hall and then turn left. Go to the end of the hallway that goes north and then turn right and go into Room 213. Along the left wall is a gap that can be squeezed through to reach the northwest part of the second floor. Go to the west end of this hallway and go into Room 217. In the center of the living room isn’t a couch but instead a red shopping cart. Inside this oddly placed card is the Handgun. Interact with it to pick it up and add it to your Inventory. This weapon is a semi-automatic pistol that carries a total of 10 bullets per magazine.
