One of the most atmospheric puzzles in Silent Hill f is the Scarecrow Field puzzle. Lost in the deep fog, players will need to read a series of poems and try and find which doll among a group corresponds to each of the phrases. These bitter words can be hard to decipher and deciding which of the strange dolls that litter the field relate to these sentences can stump even seasoned players. So, allow me to provide some guidance through this strange and seemingly endless field. This guide will show players how to complete the Scarecrow Field Puzzle in Silent Hill f.
How to Complete the Scarecrow Field Puzzle in Silent Hill f
The Scarecrow Field puzzle is found during the Ebisugaoka 2nd Visit. You will be tasked with going to the northeast corner of the map to reach Rinko’s house. Right before reaching her house, you will get lost in a field covered in fog. Near the start of this area, you will find the Mysterious Note document on a haybale with Hanako’s doll to the right of a nearby scarecrow. This note tells you that you will need to pick out the correct doll surrounding the scarecrow and remove a nail from it. If you pick the right one, it will point you towards the exit of the field. You can find the right doll by interacting with the scarecrow and reading the passage written on its face. This will give you a hint at which doll is the right one. If you pick the wrong one, the doll will come alive and attack you. The passage on the scarecrow is different depending on your Riddle Difficulty. You will need to complete this process at 5 different scarecrows to solve this puzzle and escape the field.
Like most of the puzzles in the game, the Scarecrow Field Puzzle has 3 different variations depending on the Riddle Difficulty you selected. We have broken down the solutions to this puzzle for all of the different difficulties.
Story Difficulty
The first scarecrow group that you find will have the following statement:
Who are you?
Why do you always have to be different than everyone else? Freak.
The doll that you need to find is the only one in the group holding a bladed weapon. Interact with her and remove the nail from her shoulder. She will twist and contort to point you to the next step.
Make your way through the fog until you find another group of dolls and the second scarecrow. Scarecrow #2 will have the following statement:
Who are you?
Honestly. You’re helpless without me.
In an inverse to the previous group, you will need to find the only doll that isn’t holding a weapon. She can be found in the middle of the group. Remove the nail from her waist to get the directions to the next group.
After finding this new group, the third scarecrow will have the following statement:
Who are you?
I’ll be your friend. Otherwise, you’d be so miserably alone.
If you look closely, the dolls will be broken up into pairs, each duo standing close to each other and having matching ties around their necks. The doll that you need to interact with is the only one with a red tie and a yellow bird pin on their uniform. Interact with the doll to remove this nail from its back.
The fourth scarecrow group that you find will have the following statement:
Who are you?
Tell me, truly. You two aren’t anything more than friends, right? I’ve always been watching you when you weren’t looking, you know.
Near the middle of the group is a doll standing between a male doll and another female doll. Both of the dolls on either side of this center doll are looking at her and she has her arms pointing toward both of them. Interact with this doll and remove the nail from its stomach.
The fifth and final scarecrow group that you find will have the following statement:
Who are you?
You. Yes, you.
Look for the doll all alone at the far end of the group, opposite the scarecrow. This doll has a similar hairstyle to Hinako’s, with her arms stretched out to both sides.
After pulling out the nail in the fifth scarecrow, a cutscene will play and you will be teleported out of the field. This will complete the Scarecrow Field puzzle.
Hard Difficulty
The first scarecrow group that you find will have the following statement:
Can you imagine how I feel?
I’ll put on my polite smile for now.
The doll you need to find here is near the center of the group. She holds a blade, has a mask on the back of her head, and has a smile carved into her mouth. Interact with her and remove the nail from her shoulder. She will contort and point towards the next step of the puzzle.
Progress through the fog until you stumble upon another group of dolls. The second scarecrow that you find nearby will have the following statement:
Can you imagine how I feel?
What it’s like to have been deceived by you for so long?
Go to the middle of the group and find the doll with a knife in her back. Remove the nail in her chest to get her to point to the next scarecrow.
Scarecrow #3 will have the following statement:
Can you imagine how I feel?
He never once looked at me the way he looked at you. Not once.
There is a doll bending over backwards, standing behind and staring at a male doll that is looking at a different female doll. The doll behind the male doll is the one you want to interact with. Remove the nail from her stomach.
The fourth scarecrow group that you find will have the following statement:
Can you imagine how I feel?
You’ve always been such an eyesore.
Standing in front of the scarecrow, go to the right end of the group to find a frowning doll standing alone, looking toward the center of the group. Remove the nail from her side to progress to the final step.
The fifth and final scarecrow group that you find will have the following statement:
Can you imagine how I feel?
You hurt me, and even hurt him, too. Do you know how it feels to force a smile while I’m staring at that disgusting face of yours?!
Go to the center of the group to find a doll that has a similar hairstyle to Hinako’s, with her arms stretched out to both sides. Nearby are a male and female doll, both with knives in their backs as well. Interact with this doll and remove the nail from her shoulder.
After pulling out the nail in the fifth scarecrow, a cutscene will play and you will be teleported out of the field. This will complete the Scarecrow Field puzzle.
Lost in the Fog Difficulty
The first scarecrow group that you find will have the following statement:
It’s your funeral today.
I think I’ll give you a standing ovation.
The doll you need to find here is to the left of the scarecrow. Her hands are empty and her head is upside down. Since she is the only one with empty hands, she is the only one who can applaud. Interact with the doll and remove the nail from her chest. She will contort and point towards the next step of the puzzle.
Progress through the fog until you stumble upon another group of dolls. The second scarecrow that you find nearby will have the following statement:
It’s your funeral today.
Good riddance.
It feels as though I finally got that painful burden off my chest.
Go to the far end of the group, opposite the scarecrow. You will find a doll with her arms outstretched and a knife at her feet, as if she pulled it from her chest and dropped it to the ground.. Remove the nail in her chest to get her to point to the next scarecrow.
Scarecrow #3 will have the following statement:
It’s your funeral today.
You hurt him, and now you’re leaving him behind.
I hope you suffer for what you’ve done.
There is a dead doll on the ground in the middle of the group, a blade in its back. Go to the female doll that is facing away from the body, arms outstretched, head upside down, and no weapon in its hand. Remove the nail from her side.
The fourth scarecrow group that you find will have the following statement:
It’s your funeral today.
You were always such a thorn in my side.
Always getting between me and him.
Standing in the middle of the group is a doll. Look to where the doll is facing to see a female doll looking at the middle doll. Look behind the middle doll to see a male doll staring at the middle doll. This middle doll is between the other two dolls, meaning the middle doll is the one you want. Remove the nail from her stomach to progress to the final step.
The fifth and final scarecrow group that you find will have the following statement:
It’s your funeral today.
Goodbye, and don’t ever show your face again. Go do your own thing, just like you always have.
This is the most unique solution out of any of the scarecrow puzzles. This is because you won’t find the correct doll among the group behind the scarecrow. Go to the right of the group of dolls behind the scarecrow and you will find a dead doll on the ground. One of their arms is outstretched, pointing out into the fog. Follow its pointing arm and you will find another dead and pointing doll. Following this point doll will lead to a 3rd dead doll. Follow this doll to find the 4th and final dead doll. Follow this last dead doll, and you will find the doll representing the scarecrow’s writing, all alone and far away. Interact with this doll and remove the nail from her shoulder.
After pulling out the nail in the fifth scarecrow, a cutscene will play and you will be teleported out of the field. This will complete the Scarecrow Field puzzle.
