Cut Calamity Ganon down to size and make the seemingly endless world of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild just a tad easier to conquer with Gameranx’s complete walkthrough, covering each and every main quest.
Due to the way Breath of the Wild is designed, technically every main quest is completely optional. From the start, Link can climb down from the Great Plateau and face off against the unstoppable might of Calamity Ganon. Some enterprising speedrunners have already completed the story in an hour or less.
We’re all about the little guy, and most regular fans aren’t going to stand a chance against Ganon (or get close to Hyrule Castle) without completing these major milestones. Follow the links below to access detail guides, complete with maps and screenshots, to see exactly what you’ll need to do to take back Hyrule and save Princess Zelda.

“Destroy Ganon” is the first quest you’ll unlock after escaping the tutorial plateau. It can be completed at any point, and many future main quest you unlock can also be put-off or finished in any order. “Captured Memories” is added after finished “Locked Mementos”, and this long-term main quest likely won’t be completed until you’re ready to face Calamity Ganon.
All the Divine Beasts are totally optional, but each one unlocks a new special ability that will aid Link in his adventures. Activating a Divine Beast will also remove a percentage of Calamity Ganon’s health bar, weaking him significantly. Appeasing all four Divine Beasts will lower Calamity Ganon’s total health by 50%.
Certain quests must be completed to gain access to the Divine Beasts. “Reach Zora’s Domain” must be finished before “Divine Beast Vah Ruta” can begin. “Forbidden City Entry” must be finished before “Divine Beast Vah Naboris” can start, etc. Each guide will go over requirements and tell you exactly when / where a main quest becomes available.
