Alan Wake 2: How To Get The Sawed-Off Shotgun

October 27, 2023 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Don’t miss out on the Sawed-Off.

Don’t miss out on the Sawed-Off Shotgun in Alan Wake 2. There’s nothing better than a shotgun, and the Sawed-Off Shotgun is an absolutely essential weapon. Surprisingly, this weapon is actually completely optional — you can miss it if you don’t thoroughly explore the Cauldron Lake map in Chapter 2 of the story. There’s also a short puzzle required to unlock the case. Below we’ll explain where to find the shotgun and how to solve the keypad puzzle.

The Sawed-Off Shotgun is a classic double-barreled weapon that’s only truly effective at very close range. Because the enemies are so much deadlier in Alan Wake 2, you’ll need all the firepower you can get. The Sawed-Off Shotgun can also be upgraded as you collect rare Fragments — the enhanced shotgun can stun enemies more often or even give yourself the power to heal by dealing damage.

Get your hands on the first unlockable weapon of the game, get the puzzle solution, and get to blasting Taken with your favorite new toy.

How To Get Sawed-Off Shotgun | Weapon Guide

The Sawed-Off Shotgun is available in Return 2 in the Cauldron Lake area. When you return for the second visit, you’ll be able to more fully explore the region.

  • Location: The Shotgun is located in a locked case in the Cauldron Lake General Store. Enter the back-right room to find the case. The General Store is next to the Murder Site on your map.
  • Combination Code: 7-3-9

The note on the case states to check “Lady Luck’ on the counter. If you check the counter, you’ll see that there are two important notes here. There’s a series of updated codes on the left and a lotto number on the right. By comparing the numbers, you’ll see that some of them match.

How To Solve The Puzzle: After each code update, the store owner swaps out the next two numbers of the code with two numbers on the lotto ticket. So we have 0-5, 1-3, 1-7 and 2-3. The next number in line is 3-9. That’s your code. 7-3-9.

The Sawed-Off Shotgun is a powerful close-range weapon that can be loaded with two shells at a time. The shotgun has three potential weapon upgrades.

  • Fluid Motion: Costs 16 Fragments. Increases reload speed.
  • Out of Action: Costs 14 Fragments. Deals increased damage to enemies that are stunned, blinded or knocked down.
  • Ready For More: Costs 18 Fragments. Kill an enemy to restore health. The amount of restored health depends on the strength of the enemy.

The Sawed-Off Shotgun is an essential and powerful weapon you’ll want to get as early as possible. You can collect this weapon after returning to Cauldron Lake at night. Get it from inside the General Store. All that extra power is important.
