With the right tricks, you can easily collect Red Dust in Diablo 4 while barely fighting other players.
Red Dust is the PVP currency of Diablo 4 — the red stuff you can only spend at the two PVP areas on the vast open-world map. These areas allow players to mark themselves for PVP, where they can attack (and be attacked) by anyone. If you’re a PVE player and don’t want to rebuild yourself just to unlock a bunch of cosmetics, there are simple strategies you can use to avoid fighting and run away with loads of Red Dust rewards.

How Fields of Hatred Works | PVP Primer
Red Dust is what we want to extract in Diablo 4 PVP. It’s the resource everyone is fighting over. Killing elite monsters, bosses, and clearing events in the Fields of Hatred will get you Seeds of Hatred, which can then be turned into Red Dust through the Extraction Altars.
- Locations: There are two Fields of Hatred. One is located in the west of the Dry Steppes and another is in the south of Kehjistan.
To keep your spoils, you’ll need to use Altars of Extraction. A minute timer will appear after starting the ritual — reach the end, and you’ll gain Red Dust. You’ll also be vulnerable to enemy players moving in for the kill. That makes earning Red Dust especially tough for solo-focused players. If you’re really more into PVE and still want to earn enough Red Dust to unlock all the cosmetics, there’s a few simple tricks you can use.
How To Get Red Dust Easier
You can make earning Red Dust a lot easier with a few simple tricks. In PVP areas, players with the Bloodmark activated can attack you — and you can attack them back. If you don’t have a Bloodmark, you can only attack aggressors while passive players are safe.
Dealing with Bloodmarked enemies is challenging. They’re after your Seeds of Hatred. Here’s a few tips to make solo gathering easier.
- Hunt for Red Dust on the Kehjistan Fields of Hatred map. This map is smaller but less populated. That may not be true on every realm. Try both maps and see which has fewer players.
- Play on World Tier 1 or 2. Most players on the Fields of Hatred are on World Tier 3. I recommend waiting until you’ve reached the Endgame, then hunting for Red Dust. Even if players try to kill you, at that level, you should be experienced enough to defend yourself.
- To quickly gather Red Dust, open Baleful Chests. These chests always contain at least 1,000 currency. There are dozens of these chests on the map. You need to have PVP enabled to collect, but they’re incredibly valuable. Get as many as you can before activating a Ritual.
- All you need to do is survive one minute. Even if an enemy player is hunting, they won’t get your Red Dust if the ritual is complete.
- Watch the text messages to see how many players are dying nearby. This will alert you to whether there is a high player count in the area, or if one player is stalking for easy kills. Swap to a different map or change World Tier (1 or 2) to avoid the fight.
Wait until downtimes to run routes, and time your Extraction depending on how dangerous the zone is. If you’re encountering enemy players constantly, I recommend stopping to bank your Red Dust more often. Otherwise, you can run circles around the map to collect Baleful Chests, stopping in the center buildings to check for chests on your horse, then perform the Extraction Ritual. You can very easily grab 10,000+ Red Dust in a few minutes. Make sure you have a little Fortify and Barrier in your build, and no enemy will be able to kill you fast enough to stop the ritual.
