Satoru Iwata wasn’t just the CEO of Nintendo when he passed away in 2015 — he was a true legend of the industry. To Game Freak, the creators of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon, he’s the savior of the Pokémon series. There’s a lengthy little Easter egg history lesson trainers can find in the Game Freak offices located on Akala Island, so this is kind of like an Easter egg within an Easter egg!
The Game Freak in-game offices aren’t new — that all appeared in the original Pokémon Sun and Moon. What has changed are the lines of dialogue spoken by Morimoto, an Ace Trainer NPC modelled after the real-life Shigeki Morimoto, one of the lead programmers and designers of the entire Pokémon franchise. He appears often in Pokémon mainline titles with words of advice or special questions / rewards, but this time, the man has kind words for the late Satoru Iwata. Check out everything in the full Easter egg guide below.

Find This Tribute To Satoru Iwata | Easter Egg Guide
The Satoru Iwata tribute can be found in the Game Freak offices, located in Akala Island, in Heahea City, in one of the tall buildings down the main street. Go upstairs and talk to the bearded-NPC on the left — that’s Shigeki Morimoto!
Or, that’s his in-game representation. Shigeki Morimoto is one of the primary developers responsible for building Pokémon as we know it today, and he has a lengthy history lesson to share, all about Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata.
Depending on your Pokedex, Morimoto will offer different things to say. Using the PokeBank and Transfer utilities, you can transfer Pokémon from various past games in the franchise — and if you talk to Morimoto with those transferred Pokémon in your Pokedex, he’ll offer really unique insights.
In this case, Morimoto will talk about former Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata if you have a Pokémon in your team transferred from Pokémon Silver.
Here’s what he has to say.
“I loved the bug catching contest. Did you know that you can win it, even if you catch a Caterpie or Metapod? It’s true! Boy, when we were told halfway through development to make Kanto too, I thought I might just expire on the spot. When we were having trouble fitting all the data in for Gold and Silver, and we were really in a pinch, this amazing guy came along and made a program for us that solved all our problems. He went on to become the amazing president of a real big company soon after that, too.”
Naturally, this story is about Satoru Iwata and his ability to pull miracles out of Nintendo’s hardware. This is a pretty famous example too — Iwata and his programming wizardry freed up enough memory to fit all of the Kanto region in to Pokémon Gold and Silver, when the Game Freak developers could barely fit the base game on a single cartridge. In came Iwata and saved that day. Not a bad way to remember a true legend of the industry, huh?
