Pokemon Sun & Moon: How to Get Every Ultra Beast

The mysterious Ultra Beasts in Pokemon Sun and Moon can be captured, and we’re here to provide all the details you need to get started tackling every UB optional quest. The UBs are creatures from another dimension, and you’ll have to come prepared to tackle these Level 55+ threats.

Like Totem Pokemon, Ultra Beasts generate a powerful aura that makes them more powerful in combat. They’re basically Legendary Pokemon without the ‘Legendary’ tag, and each is weirder than the last. Here’s how to get all five from your version of Pokemon Sun or Moon.

There are seven Ultra Beasts in total, but two are version exclusives. Their quests are identical in both versions, but you’ll hunt for a different type of Ultra Beast in each version of the game. You can still get them all by trading.

How to Get Every Ultra-Beast | Locations Guide

To begin capturing Ultra Beasts, you’ll first have to complete the Elite 4 and become Alola Champion. Once you’ve finished the main game and entered the post-game content, you can begin accepting Ultra Beast missions from a special NPC.

Ultra Beasts can only be captured with special Beast Pokeballs, given by the Looker — a quest-giver that changes locations and sends you to nab each Ultra-Beast in order. The Looker gives you (10) Beast Balls after defeating his partner Anabel in a duel, then sends you to collect the next numbered Ultra Beast.

Here’s where you’ll need to go to begin each of the Ultra Beast quests.

Ultra Beast Quest Locations

Note: Beast Balls are the best Pokeball type for capturing Ultra Beasts. The gallery below features QR Codes displayed in the order shown in the list below.

UB-01: Nihilego (Poison / Rock Type)
- Looker Location: Akala Island, Route 8 – Find the Looker at the motel to the left of the Pokemon Center.
- Ultra Beast Location: Akala Island, Diglett Tunnel – A random encounter after accepting the quest from the Looker.

UB-02: Buzzwole (Bug / Fighting Type) [Sun Exclusive]
- Looker Location: Melemele Island, Route 2 – After capturing Nihilego, talk to the Looker and Anabel at the Route 2 motel.
- Ultra Beast Location: Melemele Island, Melemele Meadow – Another random encounter while exploring the Melemele Meadow, only after accepting the quest from the Looker on Route 2.

UB-02: Pheromosa (Bug / Fighting Type) [Moon Exclusive]
- Looker Location: Melemele Island, Route 2 – After capturing Nihilego, talk to the Looker and Anabel at the Route 2 motel.
- Ultra Beast Location: Melemele Island, Melemele Meadow – Another random encounter while exploring the Melemele Meadow, only after accepting the quest from the Looker on Route 2.

UB-03: Xurkitree (Electric Type)
- Looker Location: Akala Island, Route 8 – Return to the motel on Akala Island to talk to the Looker once again to start the Xurkitree quest. For this quest, you’ll need to find and capture two Xurkitrees.
- Ultra Beast Location: Akala Island, Lush Jungle – The first Xurkitree is available at Lush Jungle.
- Ultra Beast Location: Akala Island, Memorial Hill – A second Xurkitree will appear at Memorial Hill.

UB-04: Kartana (Grass / Steel Type) [Sun Exclusive]
- Looker Location: Ula’ula Island, Route 13 – Find the Looker and his partner at the hotel on this route. Like the last quest, you’ll need to capture multiples — this time there are four.
- Ultra Beast Location: Ula’ula Island, Route 17 – All four of the same Ultra Beast will appear in random encounters while running around this route.

UB-04: Celesteela (Steel / Flying Type) [Moon Exclusive]
- Looker Location: Ula’ula Island, Route 13 – Find the Looker and his partner at the hotel on this route. Like the last quest, you’ll need to capture multiples — this time there are four.
- Ultra Beast Location: Ula’ula Island, Route 17 – All four of the same Ultra Beast will appear in random encounters while running around this route.

UB-05: Guzzlord (Dark / Dragon Type)
- Looker Location: Poni Island, Seafolk Village – This time, the Looker appears in the restaurant in Seafolk Village. He has a new partner, Nanu, which you’ll have to duel to take on this final Ultra Beast quest.
- Ultra Beast Location: Poni Island, Resolution Cave – Stay on the lower level of Resolution Cave to battle Guzzlord in a random encounter.
