Adapt to the Duchy of Toussaint with new mutations in the Blood and Wine expansion to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. These powerful abilities provide Geralt special combat bonuses, like a buff that increases damage dependent on the number of enemies you’re facing, or one powerful skill that revives a downed Geralt with full health every three minutes.
Mutations come in three categories; combat, sign, and alchemy. Unlocking mutations costs a crafting material called mutagen, and always requires a pair of two ability points to research. These twelve character upgrades are only unlocked after completing a side quest available early in Blood and Wine. Learn all about mutations — how to unlock them and their bonus effects — with the full guide below.
DLC-Exclusive Mutations
Blood and Wine includes 12 new mutations. Mutations are ability upgrades that are unlocked through the use of mutagens and ability points.
- How to Unlock Blood and Wine Mutagens:
- Complete the Side Quest “Turn and Face the Strange”
- This quest becomes available after completing the Main Quest “Blood Run”
- While exploring the city of Beauclair in Toussaint, a messenger will deliver a letter to Geralt.
- This unlocks the Side Quest and leads you to a cemetery that eventually reveals a Witcher researcher that is studying new mutations.
Complete these steps and the DLC-exclusive mutations will become available. Blood and Wine also pushes the level cap up to 100, so you should have plenty of chances to earn ability points and unlock these mutations.
