Super Mario Odyssey: All Hint Art & Treasure Locations Guide

January 15, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Solve the toughest challenges in Super Mario Odyssey with these hint art locations — where to find the hints, and where to find the treasure.

The toughest riddles in Super Mario Odyssey are the Hint Art images, flat out. Each one points to a secret Power Moon location — and these Power Moons don’t rumble when you get close. You’ll only have the Hint Art to go on, and some of these are really tough to figure out.

The pictures aren’t always images of actual kingdoms. Sometimes, you’ll find graphic art simplifications of patterns or objects in the environment. Sometimes, you’ll get two images and have to figure out what’s different about each. Even better, you’ll find Poochie, Yoshi’s loyal dog, in these pictures, pointing out secret Power Moon spots.

All Hint Art & Treasure Locations Guide

Press [A] when you encounter hint art to take a closer look. Remember to snap a screenshot for future reference — or check out the complete gallery above. Scroll through the pictures to see the hint art location (1), the hint art itself (2), and the treasure location (3) in order.

  • Hint Art #1: Cap Kingdom – Found beneath the steps to the bridge in the Central Plaza.
    • Treasure Location: Moon Kingdom – Return to Moon Kingdom after beating the game. On the ridge near the Odyssey, you’ll find a line-up of characters from all the other kingdoms. Ground stomp next to the Lake Kingdom NPC (between the Wooded / Metro NPCs) to find the treasure.
  • Hint Art #2: Sand Kingdom – On the exterior of the Tostarena Town. Go around the back walls to the right from the entrance to find the art.
    • Treasure Location: Bowser’s Kingdom – Travel to the Souvenir Shop warp flag. See the numbers on the art? That’s where you need to stomp on the stone path. Stomp the third stone on the path to the Crazy Cap store from the warp flag.
  • Hint Art #3: Wooded Kingdom – In the opening Odyssey landing zone, look behind the tree past the Rocket Flower patch with the Luncheon Kingdom NPC.
    • Treasure Location: Sand Kingdom – This one is tough. Start at the Tostarena Ruins Round Tower and travel north. Find the hole to the underground and continue north from there — near the edge, there’s a pair of two bushes. Stomp near them!
  • Hint Art #4: Lake Kingdom – On the steps to the left from the Odyssey landing zone.
    • Treasure Location: Cascade Kingdom – Right near the Odyssey, stomp the ground between the fossil bones and the Amiibo Bot / Hint Toad.
  • Hint Art #5: Metro Kingdom – Go to the New Donk City Hall Plaza and climb onto the building where the three Lake Kingdom fashion sisters are sitting on the roof. Nearby, drop down to a lower ledge to find the art.
    • Treasure Location: Lake Kingdom – Zip over to the Water Plaza and swim up to the top floor with the water funnel leading to the platform above the lake. You can see the funnel on the art — stand on the spot shown in the gallery above. It’s slightly southeast.
  • Hint Art #6: Snow Kingdom – Drop into Shiveria Town and turn left to see the art.
    • Treasure Location: Lost Kingdom – Warp to the Mountainside Platform and travel northeast to find the area shown in the art. Jump on the large tree, on one of the roots with Poochie, to get the treasure.
  • Hint Art #7: Seaside Kingdom – Jump onto the ledge west of the Odyssey. The art is hanging on the cliff wall.
    • Treasure Location: Metro Kingdom – Start at the Main Street flag and look on the road slightly north. Find the white paint text that reads “KEEP CLEAR” — stomp on the “EE” on “KEEP”!
  • Hint Art #8: Luncheon Kingdom – Start at the Path to the Meat Plateau flag, and climb the steps blocked by the cheese. Smash through the cheese, and then climb the blue cliffs to the left — there’s a path that leads to a hidden Hint Art.
    • Treasure Location: Seaside Kingdom – Warp to Ocean Trench West and swim slightly east to the cool sea corral on the underwater bottom. Stomp on the tallest corral platform.
  • Hint Art #9: Bowser’s Kingdom – At the Main Courtyard, look on the gate to the left.
    • Treasure Location: Sand Kingdom – Go to the Moe-Eye Habitat and look toward the west to see a single cactus near the edge of the map. Stomp the shadow of that cactus.
  • Hint Art #10: Moon Kingdom – Found inside the Wedding Hall, to the right of the door to the main cathedral area.
    • Treasure Location: Wooded Kingdom – Warp to the Iron Road: Entrance flag and run to the slightly hidden path straight north, behind the four “?” blocks. Stomp the corner opposite the Time Trial scarecrow.
  • Hint Art #11: Mushroom Kingdom – Easy to spot Inside Peach’s Castle!
    • Treasure Location: Cap Kingdom – Stand on the bridge connecting Bonneton with the Odyssey Landing Zone and line-up your camera so the moon is behind the giant hat tower in the distance to match the art — that’s where you need to stomp!

Dark Side Art

Ride the electricity wire down to the stone vegetable field with the bunnies. After completing the Dark Side Kingdom, lots of hint art will appear all over this field.

  • Dark Side Hint Art #1:
    • Treasure Location: Cascade Kingdom – Start at Fossil Falls Heights and cross the bridge to the boss arena. Stomp the hill on the edge, back-right from the scarecrow time trial.
  • Dark Side Hint Art #2:
    • Treasure Location: Metro Kingdom – Warp to the Heliport and stomp just above the yellow painted lines next to the large “H”.
  • Dark Side Hint Art #3:
    • Treasure Location: Mushroom Kingdom – Find the same pattern on the artwork at the garden to the right of Peach’s Castle. Stomp the tiles on the west entrance to the garden.
  • Dark Side Hint Art #4:
    • Treasure Location: Cloud Kingdom – Hop over to the Cloud Kingdom to find the same pattern. Stomp on the northwest circle.
  • Dark Side Hint Art #5:
    • Treasure Location: Snow Kingdom – Drop into Shiveria Town and slide down into the Snowline Circuit room. Down there, climb the arch and stomp above the NPC face symbol.
  • Dark Side Hint Art #6:
    • Treasure Location: Seaside Kingdom – Stomp between the two white pillars just east of the Odyssey Landing Zone, near the small hot springs.
  • Dark Side Hint Art #7:
    • Treasure Location: Lost Kingdom – Tricky to spot, but it’s found in the Odyssey Landing Zone jungle area. Run along the northeast edge to find the spot that appears in the art.
  • Dark Side Hint Art #8:
    • Treasure Location: Luncheon Kingdom – Travel to the festival plaza and stomp the ground between the giant pot platform edge and the tall pillar.
  • Dark Side Hint Art #9:
    • Treasure Location: Lake Kingdom – From the Water Plaza Entrance, stomp between the completely broken pillar and the tall pillar on the far-right of the plaza bubble.
  • Dark Side Hint Art #10:
    • Treasure Location: Ruin Kingdom – Stomp the ground to the right next to the Odyssey. Very tricky! Look at the art carefully.
