Octopath Traveler 2: How To Cure Petrification | Rare Status Effect Guide

March 22, 2023 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Preparing for the worst status ailment.

Rarely, you’ll encounter monsters that cause a unique status effect in Octopath Traveler 2 — petrification. If you’re turned to stone, you might as well be dead. Unlike other status effects, stone doesn’t eventually go away. The only way to cure petrification is with specific items, special magic, or a single accessory. Petrification is a rare status and finding ways to cure it can be even rarer. The monster at the end of the Sinking Ruins caused Petrification, and this status effect can stop even the most overpowered party. If you’re like us and struggling to figure out how to fix this, you’ll need to know a cure.

How To Cure Petrification | Turning To Stone Fix

Petrification is a secret additional status effect. The tutorials explaining status effects won’t mention petrification, and your party will never learn methods to petrify enemies. Petrification, when used on your party, permanently turns that character into stone. While petrified, they cannot take damage or act. They’re essentially frozen for the entire battle. Petrification will go away after a battle is complete, but if you want to take on certain late-game optional bosses, you’ll need to learn how to cure Petrification.

There are three methods for curing Petrification. Some guides will erroneously state that there are only two ways to cure petrification — with a unique skill and accessory. This isn’t true. There’s a third (and very simple) way to cure petrification. There’s an item called Herb-of-Grace Bud that works like all other status cures. One use and your character will be back in action.

  • Where To Find Herb-of-Grace Bud: Sold at the New Delsta Flats Black Market. In the field north of New Delsta, near the Abandoned Village, find the Black Market. It will only appear at night.
    • The vendor is on the left stall and appears only when three vendors are at the Black Market. Switch between day and night until he appears.

Herb-of-Grace Bud can be purchased for 1980 Leaves. If you have money, I recommend stocking up on at least 10. This is an extremely rare cure item and required to lift petrification.

There are two more methods for curing petrification. You can use an accessory to remain immune or get a Learned Skill for Hikari.

  • Divine Necklace Accessory: Nameless Village – Located in the east of the village. The village is north of the Western Tropu’hopu Traverse. In the village, go to the hut on the right side that’s guarded by a Beastling. Duel or knock out the Beastling to get inside and collect the chest.
  • Stonebreaker’s Gaze Learned Skill: Altar of the Flame Bringer – Learned from the Cleric standing inside the church during the day. The area is located east of Flamechurch, north of Borderfall.

And that’s it! You’ll always be prepared for petrification with these cures.
