How to Beat the Titan Boss Fight
The Titan boss fight is one of Final Fantasy 16‘s longest encounters thanks to how many phases it has and how many Cinematic Clashes are involved. Use the sections below to learn how to counter all of Titan’s moves in all four phases of the fights in order to best Kupka once and for all.
Titan Phase 1
Geocrush: Titan will usually start the fight by using Geocrush which is a variant of a move that Kupka used in your last fight with him. Instead of digging underground, however, Titan will jump into the air and perform a large AoE explosion when he lands. Because he moves so slowly, you can either run away from the area where Titan is jumping toward or simply dodge through the explosion to get some hits in while Titan recovers.
Rock Throw: When at medium to long range, Titan will swipe at the ground with his hands, throwing a boulder at you. It’s a pretty fast-moving projectile, so make sure that you’re ready to dodge through it to help close the distance between you and the boss. If you don’t want to dodge them, you can actually break the rocks that Titan throws at you by shooting them with fireballs, your ranged attack that’s mapped to the triangle button.
Voice of the Land: This move is nearly identical to the one Kupka used in your previous fight. Titan will use Voice of the Land and several rock spikes will shoot out of the ground. Either avoid the marked areas on the ground where the spikes will be coming from or dodge through them.
Various Punches and Kicks: Titan will throw various punches and kicks your way, but they’re pretty standard melee attacks and should be simple to dodge. They’re usually clearly telegraphed and you’ll have plenty of time to get out of the way since Titan moves pretty slowly. When he performs combos with these attacks, it’s best to get behind the boss and start getting some hits in as he finishes his combo.
Titan Phase 2
After you’ve lowered Titan’s health by roughly one-third, he’ll jump to an area outside of the boss arena and start throwing rocks at you. Dodge the rocks, and then you’ll see a scene where Ifrit learns Brimstone and Titan uses Stone’s Throw to launch a giant boulder at you. You’ll be taught how to use Brimstone which you’ll need to use one the giant rock thrown by Titan. After that, the second phase of the fight will begin.
Titan will mostly use the same moves in this stage of the fight, however, some of them will have more layers to them, making them more dangerous.
Charge: This is a pretty simple attack where Titan runs full speed at Ifrit. Dodge out of the way and then continue following the boss until it stops running to get more hits in.
Earthshaker: Earthshaker is a powerful attack that creates giant stone spikes across the entire boss arena. When Titan hits the ground with his fists, start dodging so that you can either avoid getting hit by the spikes or make it somewhere safe where the spikes won’t be able to reach.
Titan Phase 3 (Titan Lost)
After taking out all of Titan’s health, complete the quick time event cutscene where Ifrit and Titan continue to fight and then watch as Titan eats some of the Mothercrystal, transforming into Titan Lost. After the scene is over, you’ll be sprinting toward the city-sized monster when you gain control of Ifrit. The first section of this part is essentially something of a glorified quick-time event, so you shouldn’t struggle too much.
Flying Rocks: Dodge through the rocks that are flying through the air toward you. There’s plenty of debris that’s being tossed around, but luckily, the rocks you need to worry about will have gold electricity surrounding them. Keep an eye out for them in the distance and dodge through them as they get close to you. When you get to the section that has you running on one of Titan Lost’s rock tentacles, dodge to the left or right to avoid the flying rocks but also to avoid the blue spiked rocks on the ground.
Giant Punches: Once you finally get to Titan Lost, you’ll be on a relatively small platform. His moveset here is pretty much limited to slow-moving punches. Their range is usually telegraphed on the floor of the platform you’re standing on, so just make sure you aren’t in the way when they finally hit and you’ll avoid taking damage. You should also dodge when the hand makes contact with the platform since it will frequently use AoE attacks upon impact. When Titan stops moving between attacks, get your own attacks in and hit the hand. It’s not a bad idea to use Brimstone here to tank the damage of a punch and also deal some major damage in a short amount of time.
Stone’s Throw: Titan Lost will use Stone’s Throw, the same move that you learned how to use Brimstone on earlier in the fight. To counter it, use Brimstone again and you’ll avoid taking damage or if Brimstone is still charging, just dodge through the rock.
Granite Rain: When Titan Lost uses Granite Rain, giant rocks will rain down from the sky and start landing on the platform you’re standing on. Stay out of the marked spots on the ground and you’ll be able to avoid them or dodge through the rocks if they get close to hitting you.
After fighting off Titan Lost, you’ll eventually be in a section where you’re falling with one of the boss’ stone tentacles. Use fireball to shoot the incoming rocks and Titan Lost’s other tentacles and then the fight against Titan Lost will be over.
Titan Phase 4
After destroying the giant Titan Lost, you’ll be falling toward the ground engaged in a fistfight with the regular-sized Titan. This section is pretty simple, dodge Titan’s melee attacks and then counterattack with punches of your own, using fireballs to hit him whenever he gets out of range.
Once you’ve taken out about half of Titan’s health, he’ll start using some of the moves he used in the first two phases of the fight. They’re pretty simple to dodge, so just dodge through them and keep laying on the pain.
After this phase is complete, the boss fight will be over.
