Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – How to Respec Hearts & Stamina

March 7, 2017 by Kevin Thielenhaus

On WiiU & Switch: Trade your Heart Containers and Stamina Vessels for Rupees, or swap between both upgrades. Here’s how to respec.

Heart Containers and Stamina Vessels are only unlocked by completed Shrines in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It takes a lot of work to unlock a single upgrade, and it can be frustrating locking your decision. Well, if you need just a little more stamina or want extra hearts to stay alive longer, you’re free to swap upgrades — for a cost.

This function becomes available fairly early in the adventure, but its extremely easy to miss. You’ll be able to access it once you arrive in Hateno Village in the East Necluda Region. There’s a short side-quest involved, but it’s very easy to finish. It’s all about teaching you how respecs work.

How to Respec Hearts & Stamina

During the quest “Locked Mementos” you’ll arrive in Hateno Village. This village is full of side-quests and optional missions, but you won’t want to miss the respec statue.

  • Where To Find the Horned Statue:
    • Look on the path below the “modern” houses, next to Firly Pond in Hateno Village. There’s a black, sinister statue billowing smoke. “Pray” to start a side-quest.

Talk to the statue, and it will steal away one heart container! Pretty bad, but talk to the Horned Statue again and you’ll get that heart container back safely. Once you get your Heart Container / Stamina Vessel back, the respec statue will reveal all of its functions.

  • The Horned Statue – How It Works:
    • Pray at the statue, and you’ll be given the option to “sell” your Heart Containers or Stamina Vessels for 100 Rupees.
    • You then buy back a Heart Container / Stamina Vessel for 120 Rupees. You can choose either of the two, effectively allowing you to respect for 20 Rupees per swap.

You can also let the Horned Statue keep the 100 rupees, but that’s a pretty inefficient way to make a quick buck.
