Final Fantasy 16 doesn’t give players a lot of consumable item slots, so they’ll need to make do with what they’re given. Luckily, the game allows Clive to hold more potions if he’s willing to help out Owain the engineer from time to time in the Weird Science side quest line.

Although some of Final Fantasy 16‘s side quests don’t give much in terms of substantial rewards, Even Weirder Science is a quest that’s very much worth doing because it’ll expand the number of consumable items players are able to carry during combat.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to complete the Even Weirder Science side quest in Final Fantasy 16 to fully expand your consumable item slots.

How to Start the Even Weirder Science Side Quest

To access the Even Weirder Science side quest, players will need to have completed the Weird Science side quest earlier in Final Fantasy 16 as well as the Through the Maelstrom main quest mission where players have their first boss encounter with Barnabas. Once you’ve finished that main quest mission, you’ll end up back at the Hideaway and notice a quest marker with a plus sign on it hovering above the head of Owain, the engineer inside Mel’s Dungeon.

When you talk with Owain, he’ll tell you that he needs a handful of Spherical Echoes in order to complete a new experiment he’s working on. The problem is that the Spherical Echoes he needs are guarded by various Fallen enemies who will all put up a fight to stop you from getting them. Luckily, players will have faced off against plenty of Fallen during their time with Final Fantasy 16, so the ones guarding the echoes shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

Once your conversation is over and you’ve accepted the quest, you’ll have three different Fallen ruins to search for the Spherical Echoes. You can tackle them in any order, but here’s what we did:

First, fast travel to the Auldhyl Docks Obelisk in Rosaria (the quest marker will tell you to travel to the Hawk’s Cry Cliff Obelisk, but you’ll have to face fewer Akashic monsters if you go to the Auldhyl Docks.) Once you’ve made it to Rosaria, head to the quest marker in Shallop Rock. Here, you’ll find a Woken Guardian, the most challenging foe that you’ll have to face for this side quest. Take it out and then grab the Spherical Echo it was guarding.

Next, head to the Krozjit Echoes Obelisk in Dhalmekia and go to the ruins highlighted with the quest marker. Here, you’ll have to fight off a handful of Woken Hunters, but they shouldn’t prove to be much of an issue. With them defeated, pick up the second Spherical Echo.

Finally, travel to the Northreach Obelisk in Sanbreque and cross the desert to get to the final bit of ruins highlighted with a quest marker in Advent. Guarding the ruins are a handful of Woken Bugs for you to make quick work of. After you’ve taken them all out, grab the final Spherical Echo.

With all three Spherical Echos in hand, fast travel back to the Hideaway and turn them in to Owain. He’ll thank you for your work and create a more powerful furnace using the components you grabbed for him. As a way of thanking you, he’ll give you the Expanded Potion Satchel.

The satchel allows players to hold even more consumable items. Now, you can hold 8 Potions, 5 High Potions, 4 Strength Tonics, and 4 Stoneskin Tonics. After completing the quest, you’ll also be awarded a trophy!
