Hunting for powerful Legendary gear is a lot easier with a Helltide Mystery Chests map for Diablo 4. Helltides (and Mystery Chests) are one of the best farming methods for upgrading your gear — during these limited daily events, multiple areas of a region are overrun by demons. You can tell when a Helltide is happening by the color of the zones. If 2-3 zones turn dark red on your map, you’ll know that a Helltide has taken over.
And Helltides are one of the best resources for Sacred / Ancestral loot farming. That’s all due to the Mystery Chests. These hard-to-find chests are the most expensive to unlock in a Helltide, but give the biggest rewards. Finding them is also pretty annoying, as they’re totally random and don’t appear on your map unless you get very, very close. To make finding Mystery Chests easier, check out the maps below for each region.
For more help, I recommend joining the official Diablo 4 Discord. There’s a channel dedicated to Helltide events — and players will share known locations of Mystery Chests in real-time.

How Do Mystery Chests Work?
Mystery Chests are unique chests that randomly spawn during Helltide Events in the endgame. These chests don’t appear in the same location every single time — instead, they appear in a range of locations. If you want to find a Mystery Chest, you’ll need to check all the marked locations on the region maps below.
- Mystery Chests are guaranteed to drop 3 Sacred / Ancestral pieces of loot.
- Mystery Chests cost 175 Aberrant Cinders to open and only appear when a Helltide is active in an area.
- There is one Mystery Chest per zone. When a Helltide is active, the Helltide spreads over 2-3 zones. So you will find 2-3 Mystery Chests per event.
- Mystery Chests will randomly swap locations after about 30 minutes have passed since the start of the event. If you don’t find the chest at a location listed below, you may need to re-check all previous locations.
If a Mystery Chest swaps locations, you can also open it again even if you’re in the same zone. That’s the basics for understanding Mystery Chests.
Mystery Chest Map Locations
Mystery Chests only appear during Helltide Events — and only appear once per zone. If a Helltide appears on the map, check the marked locations below.
After 30 minutes, the chest will move locations and respawn, allowing you to collect it again or forcing you to re-check all locations in a zone. Helltides can appear in any region or zone, but you only need to check the areas marked below. There are a very limited number of locations where Mystery Chests can spawn.
