Monster Hunter: World - How To Unlock All Mantles | Bonus Abilities Guide

Mantles are a powerful new piece of equipment you’ll unlock as you play Monster Hunter: World. Mantles are special cloaks you can throw on your hunter that provides temporary bonuses. The first mantle, the Ghillie Mantle, lets you sneak around without being seen by monsters. The bonuses just get better from there.

Not all mantles are earned through the story. Some are completely optional and can be easily missed if you’re not checking out the many, many optional quests available. Here, we’re going to break down all the mantles that are available in Monster Hunter: World and explain how to get them.

Mantles are special equipment items with infinite uses. You can only equip one mantle at a time, but each mantle has a special temporary effect when used. Mantles are all different, and after a mantle’s time-period is up, you’ll have to remove the mantle then wait for a cool-down timer to complete.

Ghillie Mantle:
- How To Unlock: The first mantle you unlock. Automatically unlocked in the story.
- Ability: The Ghillie Mantle turns your hunter invisible. Enemies will not attack while the mantle is active, but attacking or taking damage will remove the effect.
Glider Mantle:
- How To Unlock: The second mantle you unlock. Earned after completing the first assignment in the Coral Highland.
- Ability: Allows you to glide while jumping, or to ride air-currents. Makes riding large monsters much easier.
Challenger Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Complete ‘The Red and Blue Crew’ quest.
- Ability: Draws aggro from monsters, making them target you more often. The effect is removed after taking damage.
Rocksteady Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Complete the Level 9 ‘A Summons From Below’ quest.
- Ability: Removes reactions from damage, yells, tremors, strong wind, and provides bonus defense.
Evasion Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Complete the quest to hunt Kushala Daora in the Ancient Forest.
- Ability: Gives you more frames of invincibility when dodging, and gives an attack damage buff after a perfect dodge.
Vitaliy Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Talk to the Field Team Leader after completing Zorah Magdaros assigned quests.
- Ability: Increases your hunter’s total max HP.
Bandit Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Complete the Level 5 ‘Redefining the Power Couple’ quest.
- Ability: Improves chances of monsters dropping rare items.
Fireproof Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Unknown. Coming soon.
- Ability: Improves fire element resistance and makes you immune to fireblight.
Iceproof Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Complete the ‘Armory R&D: Weatherizing’ bounty.
- Ability: Improves ice element resistance and makes you immune to iceblight.
Waterproof Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Complete the ‘Armory R&D: Waterproofing’ bounty.
- Ability: Improves water element resistance and makes you immune to waterblight. Allows you to move faster in swamps and high water.
Thunderproof Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Complete the Level 5 ‘Gone in a Flash’ quest.
- Ability: Improves thunder element resistance and makes you immune to thunderblight / paralyzing shocks.
Apothecary Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Complete the Level 9 ‘New World Sky, New World Flower’ quest.
- Ability: Causes weapons with disabling debuffs / effects to take effect faster.
Impact Mantle:
- How To Unlock: Complete the Level 9 ‘Showdown: The Muck and the Maul’ quest.
- Ability: Adds stun effects to all weapon attacks and increases stun timer.

Smokers

Affinity Booster:
- How To Unlock: Talk to the Field Team Leader after completing Zorah Magdaros assigned quests.
- Ability: Creates a smoke-generator that increases hunter weapon affinity while in the cloud.
Cleanser Booster:
- How To Unlock: Unknown. Coming soon.
- Ability: Creates a smoke-generator that fixes elemental status effects / blights.
Health Booster:
- How To Unlock: Unknown. Coming soon.
- Ability: Creates a smoke-generator that restores HP of hunters while in the cloud.
