SnapMap, that completely overlooked mini-feature included in DOOM has expanded plenty since the game’s release. Originally, SnapMap limited creators to small rooms and only two weapons per stage. Things have changed, and since the recent December update, DOOM now features expansive (and very creative) community campaigns.
Not just simple maps, community missions include unique geometry, special encounters, difficult objectives, and everything else we expect from the singleplayer content creation scene. These maps might not have the flexibility of fully-fledged mods, but they’re still a fun and easy way to spend even more time splattering demons in DOOM.
5 Awesome DOOM SnapMap Campaigns
Lights Out
- Author: Settint312
- Campaign Length: 4 Maps (Lights Out, Heat, A New Threat, Meltdown)
What makes this campaign special? Starting from a central hub, you’ll travel (and sometimes backtrack) through a fully realized base. Along the way, you’ll find Night Vision Goggles — helpfully, the green filter only appears in low-light areas, disappearing when your DOOM Marine enters bright locations. Later, you’ll rush from panel to panel in poison-filled rooms to keep the air-filtration system active as your health ticks down. Those aren’t the only cool feature in this ode to DOOM design.
Starting from the hub, you’ll travel around an anonymous station, repairing broken systems. Starting with nothing, you’ll slowly rebuild an arsenal, even collecting character upgrades like double-jump boots. Your weapons start out strong, and there are further mod-enhanced guns to grab as you move through these sharply designed combat locations.
Filled with fun battles, this challenging campaign is a perfect way to get just a little more singleplayer action in your life. Moving from UAC Facilities to Hell and back again, there’s plenty to keep a DOOM fan entertained for an hour.
