The ‘Shadow of Rose‘ DLC has unlocked for everyone, giving us a new perspective on Resident Evil Village. The DLC is set years after the end of RE8, following original protagonist Ethan Winters’ daughter Rose. Entering the mind of the megamycete, Rose explores an amalgamated world of memories — and the first major location is the Castle. Completely remixed and ruled by new enemies that stalk the grounds, you’ll have to fight your way through strange zombies and an unstoppable enforcer. Stealth and careful management of your resources is key.
And you’ll have to solve puzzles. Like the original game, you’ll be exploring a large open-ended area with key items to find and puzzles to solve. If you’re ever lost in the castle, we have a full walkthrough explaining every step. Your main goal is to collect three masks — Bronze, Silver and Gold. Check below to learn how to get each one, and how to solve the puzzles that block your progress on these three paths.

Getting The Three Masks | Castle Walkthrough
The Castle is the first major location of ‘Shadows of Rose‘ — and your adventure truly begins after acquiring the handgun. At this point, return to the Main Hall and examine the statue. You need to find three masks; [Bronze], [Silver] and [Gold].
Each mask has specific puzzles and challenges. We’ll cover everything you need to know to acquire all three.
Where To Get The Bronze Mask
The Bronze Mask is located in the Courtyard past the Dining Hall. To enter the Courtyard, you’ll need the [Bolt Cutters].
- [Bolt Cutters] Location: Go through the Kitchen to acquire the [Bolt Cutters] near the backroom door. The [Bolt Cutters] are used to unlock the Kitchen door to the Courtyard.
The [Bronze Mask] is in the Courtyard, trapped in black void. You need to destroy the core — to destroy the core you need to acquire an upgrade to Rose’s powers. The [Power Amplifier] is located through the north door.
- [Power Amplifier] Location: Travel through the north door of the Courtyard. Go to 2F and enter the Library. Go through the Waiting Room and reach the Atelier.
- The Atelier is full of void liquid. Go up the stairs and push down the ladder to cross it.
- Go up the ladder to the antic and reach the Workshop, the upgrade is located inside.
With the [Power Amplifier] we can now destroy Cores. Cores are the flower-like bulbs in the black void liquid. Break as many as you can find to earn rewards or unlock shortcuts.
Return to the Courtyard to destroy the core and collect the [Bronze Mask].
Where To Get The Silver Mask
Now you can access multiple new areas of the castle by destroying cores. Return to the Main Hall and destroy the core blocking the stairs to the Main Hall 2F. At the top of the stairs, you’ll find a map to the [Monocular Key].
- [Monocular Key] Location: Go to the Main Hall 2F and enter the south door. A monster will appear! Retreat to the Drawing Room and read the note on the table. After reading the note, crawl under the fireplace to access the Armory. You’ll find another upgrade here.
- With the second upgrade, we can now slow multiple enemies with a charged shot. This is the only way to escape the rampaging Amalgam monster. Don’t try to fight it.
- Collect the [Monocular Key] in the Dressing Room down the hall. Then escape back to the Main Hall.
With the [Monocular Key], return to the Courtyard and unlock the door in the back-right corner. Go upstairs to the hallway of dead bodies and reach the Hall of Ablution puzzle room.
- How To Solve The Hall of Ablution Puzzle: There are four statues in this room. Each one depicts a different method of execution. You need to push the statues in a specific order to unlock the underground path.
- Statue Order: Hanging, Sword, Drowning, Arrows
This unlocks an underground path to a creepy basement. Avoid the Amalgam and reach the back of the cellar rooms — there are two major rooms you need to get through. Sneak and use your powers to slow down the immortal creature and its follows, giving you time to destroy the cores and escape. Simply run — don’t try shooting the zombies. Use Pipe Bombs and your power to clear a path through the enemies. The handgun is too slow. Grab the [Silver Mask] and leave.
After leaving with the [Silver Mask], go through the Guest Room and collect the [Snake Painting] in the washroom. Sprint by all the enemies on the way back to the Main Hall — you don’t need to fight any of them.
Where To Get The Gold Mask
After gaining the [Silver Mask], it isn’t clear what you need to do next. To progress, now we need to acquire the [Triocular Key] somehow.
- [Triocular Key] Location: To earn this key, collect the [Snake Painting] from the washroom connected to the 2F Guest Room. Take it to the Wine Room accessible from the 2F Main Hall.
Upstairs, you’ll find a painting puzzle. Solve it to acquire the [Triocular Key].
- How To Solve The Paintings Puzzle: To solve this puzzle, you’ll need the [Snake Painting]. Get it from the washroom connected to the 2F Guest Room. In Gallery, collect the [Spider Painting], [Frog Painting] and [Sheep Painting]. The [Wolf Painting] and [Butterfly Painting] can’t be moved.
- Left Paintings Order: Butterfly, Frog, Sheep
- Right Paintings Order: Wolf, Snake, Spider
After solving the puzzle, collect the [Triocular Key]. Go through the north door in the [Courtyard] to access a new room through the locked Triocular Door. This leads to the Opera Hall, where the final mask is located.
- How To Reach The [Gold Mask]: The Opera Hall is full of black void. We need to clear a path to reach it.
- Go toward the stage. Stand on the spot next to the stage and turn around to find the first core on the pillar.
- Stand on the fallen piano to reach the core above the fireplace. Use a Pipe Bomb to blast the four zombies that appear.
- Go upstairs to the small side-room. Two more zombies will spawn. Grab the items and destroy the final core from the balcony to drop a dresser.
With all three cores broken, we can reach the [Gold Mask]. Collect the [Gold Mask] and Rose will be kidnapped! You’ll be trapped in a cage and forced to complete a deadly puzzle.
- How To Escape The Duke’s Core Puzzle: There are dozens of cores all over the walls. Only a few are real. To escape, you need to destroy the correct cores.
- Core #1: Destroy cores until the magic words appear to give you clues. Look between “Right” and “Left” and destroy a core lower than the barrel underneath the TV.
- Core #2: The next one is easier. Destroying the first core reveals a dark void alcove in your cell, to your right. A zombie will spawn. Get rid of it, then destroy the large core in the center of the alcove.
- Core #3: One more to go. The final core is right in the center at the top of the ceiling.
We now have all three masks. Return to the Main Hall and save your game. Place the masks in order (Bronze = 1, Silver = 2, Gold = 3) to complete the castle. And be prepared for a difficult boss battle ahead.
