Cucco are kind of a staple of the Legend of Zelda series — and you don’t get to see many of these chickens in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Maybe they just don’t fit in, even if they’d be extremely useful in an open warfare scenario as seen in the Cucco Apocalypse Easter egg from Breath of the Wild. These things aren’t just vicious, they’re invincible!
And while cuccos don’t normally appear in maps, so you can’t smack them to summon swarms down on your enemies, they do appear in a little rare Easter egg. These scenes are so rare, I haven’t seen it once in my 20+ hours of playing through Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Thankfully the people at GameXplain can show off the little Easter egg for us.

Rare Cucco Intro Easter Egg
As shown in the video above, very rarely Link will glide into battle on a Cucco instead of on his glider. This only seems to occur with Link, and only during the cutscene where the Hero of Hyrule departs for a mission. It’s a funny little Easter egg, but there’s a little more to it.
In previous Legend of Zelda games, Link could use Cuccos as mini-gliders when jumping off ledges — the chicken would flap its wings and break your fall, letting you slowly glide down. Cuccos are basically the original glider from Breath of the Wild, so it’s no surprise they’re serving the same function here.
Some players are reporting seeing this as early as their second mission — but it’s totally random, and it will only happen when Link is selected to join a mission. The other characters don’t get special chicken-related cutscenes sadly.
Another missed opportunity — why doesn’t Link use the cucco in battle? Just leave one out for the enemies to attack, and cuccos will swarm the battlefield, wiping everything out! Maybe that would be too unfair for the forces of Calamity.
