Metal Gear Survive Walkthrough | Chapter 19 - The 15 Minute Defense

Metal Gear Survive can be a uncompromisingly difficult game. Finding food and water can be tedious until you’ve got all the purifiers and farms you need. A single zombie can ruin a ruin with a few good attacks. It’s a tough game that can sometimes feel unfair — well, here’s when the game really gets hard. For fifteen minutes, you’ll have to defend the Sahelanthropus from ever-growing waves of enemies.

This is, easily, the most challenging section of the game. Not only are you low on supplies thanks to being away from Base Camp for so long, but you’ll also have to contend with Bombers and Mortars along with the regular Wanderers that can smash open your fences in seconds. Victory requires careful planning. There’s one resource that’s actually readily available in the Africa map — gunpowder. Revolvers, shotguns, and assault rifles are your best friends for this mission. Turrets, too.

Objective: Place and activate wormhole digger in order to transport Sahelanthropus

Seth, your new Mother Base castaway, believes the Sahelanthropus has a weapon that can destroy the Lord of Dust. To get your hands on it, you’ll need to use the Wormhole Digger to bring it back to your FOB.

Let’s prepare. Bring Normal Fences, Barricades, mines, traps, and machine gun turrets. Build the revolver we found in the Transporter base and bring it, along with the assault rifle. If you need gunpowder for bullets, check all the transport base interiors.

NOTE: Bombers are common in this lengthy defense. Build a turret on the ridge to shoot incoming Bombers in the legs, or place mines directly in front of Bombers to kill them prematurely so they don’t explode on your defenses. If they’re away from regular Wanderers, you can also backstab them in combat.

Build strong defenses on the narrow single entrance facing the waterfall. More will appear on the rocks, but most of them are going to bottleneck in the narrow river canyon. Construct a turret on the ridge so you can shoot the Mortars that spawn in the distance. For Wanderer crowds escorting Bombers, shoot the legs to set them off, destroying the entire herd.

The rocky hill gives you a good vantage point, but it’s also exposed to the Mortars. They’ll use machine guns and explosives to destroy any emplacements they see. Hide in the corner and they’ll fruitlessly shell the rock wall.

Alternatively, build your turrets near the Transporter base doors. Set mines around the corner, along with defense units leading into the valley with the digger. Bring grenades and blow up entire herds when things get overwhelming. You don’t even need to worry about most of the Mortars – they’ll shoot uselessly at the rock wall. Eventually, they might approach – if that happens, aim for the head to kill them in only a few shots.

This is by far the hardest defense mission, so use everything you have available. Don’t worry about wasting items – conserve ammo, but don’t be afraid to use it either. There’s no way to win without going all in. You’ll need to use both turrets, most of your walls, almost all of your grenades, plenty of mines, and lots of bullets to survive.
