After choosing Mission 37-B: Eliminate “Cinder” Carla, you will be put on the path of saving the Coral from the Overseers’ plans and getting the Liberator of Rubicon ending in Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon. After defeating Carla, you learn that her death triggered a defense system that locked you out of the control system, putting the flying city of Xylem on a collision course with the Vasular Plant which is storing the Coral. In Mission 38-B: Destroy the Drive Block, along with your old buddy and the voice in your head, it’s up to you to destroy the vessel to ensure it doesn’t complete its voyage. This guide will provide a walkthrough of Mission 38-B: Destroy the Drive Block for Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.

Destroy The Drive Block Walkthrough In Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon
While your main objective in this level is to just destroy 4 generators, there are a few enemies along the way that might prove a bit of a challenge without the right gear. More specifically, this mission sees both the Smart Cleaner from Chapter 2 and an improved version of BALTEUS from Chapter 1 make a reappearance. The rest of the enemies in the level aren’t too much to worry about so we are going to put together a build that is useful against both of the encounters. The most important piece of equipment that you are going to need to bring is either the HI-16: GU-Q1 or HI-18: GU-A2 Pulse Guns since the main obstacle in the BALTEUS fight is its shield. Either of these weapons will make quick work of the pulse shield and give you an opening to attack. Also, bring a PB-033M ASHMEAD Pile Bunker to deal heavy Direct Hit damage when you are able to stagger the boss.
I suggest also bringing in at least one explosive to help with taking care of the Smart Cleaner. Because you can only do damage and build the ACS meter by hitting certain weak spots, these explosive weapons give you a bit more leeway with your shots because the explosion radius can make up for attacks that might slightly miss the opening. These are also decent options to use against BALTEUS as well. In my playthrough, I brought the DIZZY Grenade Launcher but any other choice can be viable. You can also bring the 44-141 JVLN ALPHA Detonating Bazooka, DF-GR-07 GOU-CHEN Grenade Launcher, or even the SONGBIRDS Grenade Cannons as a Back Unit weapon. Another strong Back Unit choice if you’d rather take something besides an explosive is the VE-60SNA Stun Needle Launcher, which can cause a lot of damage to both the BALTEUS and its shield. It is also able to build the Electric Discharge ACS Anomaly, which can add some unavoidable damage to the boss.
If you bring an Arm Unit explosive weapon, you will need to make sure that you have the Weapon Bay OS Upgrade since you will need to be able to swap to either the Pulse Gun or Pile Bunker. Speaking of OS Tuning, I would also recommend the Assault Armor OS Expansion since it can quickly cut through BALTEUS’s shield. This can be used to interrupt his powerful attacks at the start of his second phase by quickly staggering him. While these are great choices and the ones that I used, the meta DF-GA-08 HU-BEN Gatling Gun and SG-027 ZIMMERMAN Shotgun are always great choices thanks to their ability to keep pressure on a quick boss and quickly build the ACS meter.
You start the mission at the lower drive area of the Xylem flying city. As the opening cutscene plays, you are joined by Rusty, no longer bound by the Vespers and fighting for the freedom of Rubicon. He will be present to assist you through the first half of the mission.
From Mission Start, go down to the platform directly beneath you and go left through the opening to the left. From the entrance, turn to the left again and go to the end of the hall to find your first generator. From here, turn back around and head back down the hall. You can go out the way you came in to reach the next room with a generator but there is a laser cannon that might get a cheap hit off. I suggest going down the right path from the entrance and taking the passage found at the end of the area. This will lead you to the next room and place you right next to the generator that you need to destroy. Now go back outside where the laser cannon is and destroy the cannon. Once down, ascend to the platform directly above it and progress through the level by following the blue objective markers.
You will reach a platform with the Smart Cleaner on it. Unlike the later BALTEUS fight, this battle is exactly the same as the one you faced on Mission 12: Infiltrate Grid 086. Your main goal should be getting above his volcano-like exhaust port and firing rockets into the opening. If you also have the SONGBIRDS or even a second rocket launcher in your hands, you can quickly stagger the boss. At this point, land it in front of it and use all of your weapons on its open furnace door weak spot. Once he is no longer stunned, get above the boss again and repeat the process until it is defeated. Rusty will also be here so that makes the encounter even easier since he won’t have his full attention on you. If you take too long, however, Rusty will be called away to deal with another threat, which will leave you alone and in danger. Once the Smart Cleaner is destroyed, Rusty will fly away no matter how quickly you defeat the returning boss and you will need to progress further into the ship by yourself. Open the door at the end of the Smart Cleaner arena and head deeper into Xylem. Once inside, follow the path to the right and go up to the next level. Use your scanner to locate the generators if you are having trouble finding them. Once on the second level, you should find the generator to the left right next to the door to the next area. Once through the door, go up and to the right to find the fourth and final generator. Once everything is destroyed, follow the objective marker to the next room and use the Resupply before going through the door on the left toward the ARQUEBUS BALTEUS battle.
ARQUEBUS BALTEUS Battle
Once you are back outside, V.II Snail will arrive piloting the ARQUEBUS BALTEUS. This improved version of the Chapter 1 final boss trades out its rocket systems and fire attacks for several new laser and pulse attacks. He will fire two types of lasers which cause different effects with one being high damage while the other creates a cloud that does damage over time while you stand in it. The first step in this fight is to use your Pulse Gun break his Pulse shield and then use the time he is staggered to lay in some heavy damage. I suggest using a fully charged Pile Bunker attack when given the chance since this will cut through a hefty amount of health. If you have the Stun Needle Launcher, I would follow up a Pile Bunker hit with a shot from that launcher since the charged strike does give you a little extra time to perform a follow-up and build the Electric Discharge ACS Anomaly.
At around 50% health remaining, the ARQUEBUS BALTEUS will unleash an elective AoE just like the one used by the original BALTEUS. This will reactivate its Pulse Shield and begin its second phase. Instead of gaining a flaming melee attack, this version creates two beams of purple lasers. This comes in the form of two different melee attacks. He also gains the ability to leave behind a purple electric cloud as he flies around the arena. Despite these new moves, the strategy remains the same. You are going to need to focus on breaking his shield with your Pulse Gun and then dealing heavy Direct Hit damage while he is staggered. Repeat this process and the ARQUEBUS BALTEUS will be destroyed with no problem! Check out Gameranx’s full guide on how to defeat the ARQUEBUS BALTEUS boss fight here.
