Harry Potter: Wizards Unite – How To Claim Your Name Early | Early-Access Guide

April 12, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Niantic’s follow-up to Pokemon: GO is all about Harry Potter’s Wizarding World, and you can claim your account names now.

Niantic, the developers behind Pokémon GO, are expanding their unique augmented-reality brand of mobile games into J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter franchise — Niantic’s next game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite looks like an evolution of their map-based multiplayer games, letting you interact with a secret world while competing with other wizards.

The game isn’t out yet, but you can now reserve a name for use later. The reservations are specifically designed to allow players from Niantic’s previous two games, Ingress and Pokémon GO, to keep their account names for this third adventure into AR-space.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite uses the same geo-location system as Pokémon GO — you’ll be able to move around in the real-world, and locate hot-spots. These ‘traces’ help your personal wizard drag ‘foundables’ out real-world locations. ‘Foundables’ include magical items, NPCs, and mystical beasts. The story goes that a magical calamity has caused magical hot-spots to appear all over the glove, and the Ministry has asked you to help reclaim them all. Of course, you’ll be competing with other magical houses (kind of like Pokémon GO’s teams) to become the best wizards around.

How To Claim Your Name Early | Early-Access Guide

To claim your name early, you’ll need an account with one (or all) of Niantic’s previous games — Ingress or Pokémon GO.

  • Go to the code name reservation website HERE.

Select one of the two accounts on this page — Ingress Agent name, or Pokémon GO trainer name — and login with your Niantic account. You’ll be able to reserve the name you used for one of those games. It’s a nice way to keep a consistent identity if you’re planning on playing with friends in the same old Pokémon GO stomping grounds.

This feature will only be available for a limited time. Reserve your names before April 30th. The reservations are first-come, first-serve.
