Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Lightning Temple Walkthrough
The very first part of the temple is a fake Queen Gibdo fight. Just fight her by using Riju’s ability, keeping your distance while it recharges. Two or three big hits on the boss should make it disappear. Now, get into the temple by using Riju’s lightning to destroy the large purple hive on the door.
Continue the path that heads down to B1. There are chests you can grab in this area, but you can also use Ascend from the basement chamber and you’ll be in the central chamber.
Activate the central terminal to get the four battery objectives marked and your map. You are going to need to get them all working in order to ride the lift to the boss room.
Lightning Temple Battery #1
The room with the first battery is directly behind the center terminal that activates the fast travel point. Use Ultrahand to remove the two blocks (pictured above) in the wall. Now you just have to enter the room and use Riju’s power (in conjunction with an arrow, as always) to hit the battery with a big strike of lightning. This will get you one fourth of the way to activating the elevator.
Lightning Temple Battery #2
Near the first battery there will be an updraft that is blocked by a stone. Removing the boulder will allow you to freely traverse up the dungeon’s numerous levels.
Head up to 5F and look for spot a gap in the wall with a huge beam of light shining vertically. Enter this room — the Room of Natural Light. Here you will need to stack the nearby stone up so it stands tall dirrectly in the middle of the light pillar. By using Ultrahand to place a mirror (also in the room) on top, you will create a light beam. Make sure it shines through the hole out of the room into the main chamber.
On floor 5F of the main chamber you will notice there are four pillars with mirrors you can slide along a set path. Move the nearest pillar to the beam of light you just created in front of the hole so it’s reflecting the light northeast. Then move the pillar on the right hand side down so it intersects and shoots the beam down, opening a secret passage on 3F. Glide down to the door, stand on the switch, and walk into the room where you will find the next battery.
In this chamber, you will need to defeat some Gidbos and Constructs. Focus on first destroying the hive and then the enemies. Now, you need to solve the room’s puzzle to enter the battery chamber.
The easiest way I found to do so was to make a small float out of nearby parts, including grates, mirros, and balloons.. There are grates and balloons nearby, so stick ’em together to create a makeshift hot air balloon. Place a mirror on top and angle it so its facing the opposite wall where the block entrance to the battery room is. Now, I just dropped some wood and flint to make a fire under the balloon in order to lift the contraption.
As it rises, the mirror will reflect the light. Eventually, this will align with the light sensitive switch and the door will open. Now just drop down and use Riju’s ability to turn on the second battery.
Lightning Temple Battery #3
Return to the sliding mirror pillars on 5F. Move the near pillar so that it no longer intersects the light. Move to the other side to the furthest pillar and remove the sand in order to slide it. Now the light will be pointing towards the other pillar you haven’t moved yet. Slide this one in order to now send the light upwards, unveiling a secret door on 6F.
Use the updraft to glide (and climb too) up to the newly unveiled switch. Step on it and a room will open up. Riju won’t be able to follow you here.
Here, there is a hole you must glide down, but it is full of fire. Avoid the lines of flame by gliding slowly and prepare for combat when you reach the bottom. After taking out two Constructs, you can open the door to your new chamber — now on 2F — and let Riju in to activate the battery on this floor.
Lightning Temple Battery #4
For the final battery, ride the updraft back up to 4F and head for the north corner of the main chamber. You will find an entrance to a room where you are greeted by an enemy Construct. After taking it out pass through the tube with two rotating discs and in the next room use Ultrahand to remove to bricks from the wall, revealing a light source.
Use Recall to make sure the aforementioned discs line up. The light will once again activate a switch that you will need to glide on over to step on in order to open up a new room. Inside there are traps in the form of both horizontal and vertical spiked walls that will crush you. Luckily, there are some conveniently placed boulders nearby that you can fuse and stack in order to give Link and Riju space to walk though.
Once you move through all the traps you will wind up in the room with a light source. There is a puzzle in here you need to solve by activating a light sensitive switch in the bottom half of the room. Drop down and you’ll see that the switch is spinning and only shows up for less than a second at a time.
Here, you are supposed to use a stake to stop the spinning contraption. Regardless of what the game tells you though, I found if you were just persistent in aiming the mirrored beam of light directly at the switch, you will get it to turn from orange to green while it is in full motion.
Hitting this unlocks the room where the final battery resides. After you hit it with lightning, return to the main chamber and activate the elevator to get up to 7F and the Queen Gibdo boss.
How to Beat Queen Gibdo, Lightning Temple Boss In Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
By now, it should be pretty apparent how to defeat the Queen Gibdo. When the boss in its regular form, use Riju’s ability to transform it to the stone white that means it’s vulnerable.
The Queen Gibdo boss has two attacks to watch out for. One is a sand laser that you can outrun, but must be mindful not to get caught in. Additionally, while in stone form, the boss attacks by throwing multiple tornados your way. These can also be avoided simply by running.
I found that you need to keep your distance from the boss unless you want to take massive damage. Instead, hit it from afar with powerful arrows enhanced by items (ironically I found Gibdo bones to do a lot of damage) and Riju’s power. If you can deal enough damage quickly, the Queen Gibdo will collapse for a number of seconds, leaving itself vulnerable to melee attacks.
Once half of its health is depleted, Queen Gibdo will summon minion Gibdo’s from the hives in the arena. You can use Riju’s lightning or a bomb to destroy the hives as quickly as possible. The fight allows you to clear these enemies first and then return to focus on the Queen.
The rest of phase two is largely the same as the first, just tougher. Rinse and repeat your tactics and heal when necessary to beat this boss. By doing so you will get the Heart Container and the ability to use Riju’s power at will.
