There are three main types of currency that the player needs to keep track of in Tchia: clam pearls, braided trinkets, and challenge trophies. While all three have slightly different uses and ways to acquire, players will need to get their hands on some of each at some point if they’re looking to play through the entirety of the game’s story. Clam pearls and braided trinkets tend to be lumped together as they’re the main sources of currency used to purchase cosmetics, however, players will also need challenge trophies if they’re looking to unlock every cosmetic in the game.
Because trophies aren’t counted as “currency” in the game’s menus, players might end up confused about how they work and can be used as currency. Here’s everything you need to know about challenge trophies in Tchia from what they do to how they’re acquired.

Challenge Trophies Explained
Challenge trophies are an item in Tchia that are mainly used as currency. As mentioned above, they don’t function exactly like the other two main types of currencies in the game, rather, they work more like the rest of the items that you’ll interact with in Tchia in that they take space up in your bag and can be soul-jumped into (though, there’s no reason to since they don’t have a unique, useful function.)
To earn challenge trophies, players will need to complete the various challenges that are littered across the New Caledonian-inspired islands that make up the game world. There are three types of challenges: shooting range challenges, diving board challenges, and race challenges. Each one tasks the player with completing a small set of objectives related to what the challenge is. Depending on how well the player can complete them determines what type of trophy they get.
There are three types of challenge trophies that can be awarded: bronze, silver, and gold. Despite coming in three colors, they’re curiously all worth the same amount when it comes time to spend them. The only difference between the three colors is that gold trophies are required to be earned if you want the challenge to be marked as completed on your map.
In order to cash them in for cosmetics, you’ll need to visit the two claw machine games. There’s a claw machine on both main islands: one in Tingeting on the north island and one in Aemoon on the south island.
In order to use your challenge trophies, walk up to the claw machine and pull the trophy out of your bag. Face the hole on the right side of the machine and then drop your trophy into it. When you do, the machine will light up and you’ll have three tries to grab the cosmetic balls that are inside it. Once you’ve used all three tries, you’ll need to load another trophy.
