The Unravelled is a spooky boss found at the bottom of Whiteward in Hollow Knight: Silksong. This creepy secret boss is totally optional, but absolutely worth fighting for its special reward — you’ll earn a Silk Heart piece, which gives Hornet the ability to generate silk. When you’re empty on silk, you’ll always regenerate a small fraction. The more Silk Hearts you collect, the stronger this effect will be. Learn where to find the Unravelled and get our tips on how to defeat this hidden boss below.
How To Fight The Unravelled Secret Boss
The Unravelled is a hidden boss found in the Whiteward. This is a more powerful version of the insane, silk-covered creatures that attack Hornet in the Whiteward. To access this boss, you’ll need to unlock the Whiteward secret level and gain the grapple ability. Learn how to unlock the Whiteward with the White Key here.

- On the upper-east side of the Whiteward, there’s a hanging metal ring. Use the grapple needle ability to cling to the ring — this pulls open a hatch that drops a dead body. Collect the Surgeon’s Key from the body.
Next, go to the Operating Theater in the lower-west corner of Whiteward. At the operating theater room, use the Surgeon’s Key to open a sluice gate to the disposal area below. Dropping into the pit will initiate the Unravelled boss.
Defeating the boss rewards you with the Silk Heart — an item that allows Hornet to regenerate silk. You’ll always regenerate a small amount of silk. The more Silk Hearts you collect, the more silk you’ll regenerate.
Boss: The Unravelled

Defeat several waves of Whiteward enemies and the boss will appear. This is a large creature covered in silk. It appears out of the ground and charges across the arena. It may also shoot two dead bodies.
- It is a very large creature. To dodge its charge, you’ll need the double-jump or wall-jump to climb over it. You can also parry its charge without taking damage if you’ve unlocked this ability.
- In its second phase, the creature spawns spears the rise out of the ground, then drop back down. It will also launch three dead bodies instead of two. It has three phases and becomes increasingly aggressive after each phase, spawning standard enemies between phases before returning.
When it shoots out dead bodies, always dodge one. It will never shoot a dead body in the same spot twice, so if you dodge once, it won’t be able to hit you.
This boss is much, much easier with double-jump unlocked. Tools are especially useful in this boss fight. Use bombs or other tools to deal high damage in its final phase — it will become more aggressive, and wall-jumping is required to avoid its charge attack. Parry will always block his charge, and you won’t take contact damage after phasing through it. Parry is one easy way to deal damage if you’ve confident and have enough silk to spare.
