Raid Chests are some of the most valuable chests in Destiny 2. Aside from Heroic Public Event reward chests, Raid Chests are your best chance to get random Exotic Engrams. In fact, if you collect all 9, you’re almost guaranteed to earn 1-3 Exotic Engrams on your travels. That’s a pretty high percentage, but even if you don’t get Exotics, you’re still bound to found loads of Legendaries and other awesome, high Power Level loot.
The Leviathan raid in Destiny 2 isn’t exactly easy to navigate. The labyrinth is a series of under-tubes and chambers filled with secrets and security systems. To access at least half of the raid chests, you’ll need to find and destroy entire rooms filled with red-vision-cone anti-guardian security turrets. If you don’t destroy the turrets fast enough, they’ll gain invulnerability rings. It’s a pain, but we’ll break down what to do and where to go for every hidden raid chest.

All Raid Chest Locations
Each Raid Chest is associated with one of the boss battles you complete as you finish the Leviathan Raid. When a big boss is defeated, you’ll earn their key which can be used to open one of the chests in the stage.
There are two types of Raid Chests — hidden in secret areas, or locked behind ornate gold-trimmed security doors. To unlock the doors, you’ll need to deactivate the security system.
Getting Started: Unlocking the Underbelly
At the start of the raid, on the entrance bridge, drop down to the lower level of the bridge and enter the room at the end. There are three pillars in this room with two levers on each pillar. Use the switches in the right order will open a secret door.
- From left to right, hit the switches in this order: 1, 5, 3, 2, 4, 6
Go up the tower to the top. On the large battlefield platform, there’s a dark area in the back with pipes — if you input the switch code correctly, this area will be open. Here, you can access the underbelly of the ship.
Enter the dark void to appear in a long sewer-like obstacle course. Jump to the fan at the end and follow the path to a locked door with a switch. Wait a few seconds for the prompt to appear, then hit the switch to enter the next room.
Raid Chest #1: Engine
To deactivate the security system in the following room, you’ll need to kill all four watcher turrets at the same time before they gain an invulnerable shield when they spot a Guardian. Sneak around to get into position, avoiding the red vision cones, and blast them all in unison
Raid Chest #2: Ventilator
From the previous raid chest, continue through the room and drop down into the long maintenance tunnel with the spinning fan blades. This one is much easier — past the second fan, jump onto the raised platform on the left to find the Ventilator chest.
Raid Chest #3: Pipeline
At the end of the fan tunnel, ride the wind up and turn left to go through the path that’s lit in white light. Ignore the red passage for now. The white path leads to a red tunnel. Fall down and try not to die from the fall, then unlock the door with the switch panel.
Down below, you’ll find the locked security door to the right on the catwalks. To open the security door, destroy the turrets in unison once again.
Raid Chest #4: Conduit
Backtrack to the entrance to the room with the Pipleline chest and security turrets. Instead of going right, look left and jump into the wind generated by the fan to ride up. Up on top, there are more turrets (you might need to go up here to destroy all the Raid Chest #3 turrets in unison) and continue to the lit-up room that leads back to the top of the fan shaft.
Returning to the hub with the two passages (one white, one red) — go through the red passage this time. Go right and drop down to reach a strange tunnel with purple sludge. This is the shortcut path to the boss of the Raid. From this central passage, continue into the circular tunnel on the opposite end and up.
In another tunnel, turn around to the raised platform with the monitors, then go through the small door on the left in the area ahead bathed in red light. This small passage leads up and into yet another security chamber after a long drop down a fan shaft, through another switch door. You know what to do.
Raid Chest #5: Irrigation
From the Conduit room, exit through the back door that leads to a room with a large metal grating fence, positioned diagonally in the room. At the top, there’s a bright light — jump above the bright light and land on the narrow pipes. If you slip, you’ll die.
Sneak across to the opposite side on the pipes and drop down into an optional room. The Irrigation chest is to your right.
Raid Chest #6: Drain
Return to the massively long chamber with the purple sludge that leads to the throne room. From the sludge drain, go left and into the deactivated fan shaft, using the metal ribs to climb up to the top, then go through the red hallway to find another fan shaft. Drop all the way down, press the button, and ride the fan all the way to the top of the shaft. This is all to return to the Pipeline room.
Back in the Pipeline room, ride the fan up to the top, but instead of going right to backtrack, go left to find a tricky-to-find open pipe on the wall with bright red lights inside. In the tube, go left when you reach a fork and crouch through the bundles of pipes. Continue down this path, then turn left to find another hole you can drop down to reach “The Drain” section.
Once again, the Drain features four watcher turrets with red vision cones. Sneak around so everyone is in position to destroy them all quickly to unlock the security door.
Raid Chest #7: Transfer
Return to the start of the raid, at the door we used the levers to open at the start of the sewer passage. Jump across the leaning platforms and ride the fan up. Instead of turning left at the top, go directly straight forward.
Keep going up the ramps and you’ll reach the Transfer room. Very straightforward for once. Sneak around and destroy all the turrets in unison, or close enough to unison, to make the security door open.
Raid Chest #8: Armory
Backtrack a little and look for an axe-icon path in the back-left. It leads to a narrow path you’ll have to crouch through, and keep following the signs to reach the Armory. Unsurprisingly, there are four more turrets. Sneak around the vision cones and prepare a proper ambush!
Get all the turrets and you’ll find the armory key door itself in the back-left of the room.
Raid Chest #9: Aqueduct
From the Armory, find the narrow passage in the corner your team can crawl into. It leads to a locked door with a switch panel. Open it to re-enter the Transfer security area. Go left from the tiny passage exit and through the doorway marked with a bright red light.
Jump through the platforms above and when you reach the long hallway, go right instead of forward. Up the ramps and then back down, go left and drop into a chamber with a strange, massive spinning centrifuge thing straight ahead. To the left of that, there’s a raised platform with the last secret Raid Chest location.
