Old-school remakes are a dime-a-dozen on the SnapMap server. You’ll find dozens of E1M1, but this campaign is something special. Instead of remaking old levels from the original, Techbase is all about creating a new experience with the classic Doom tileset.

Taking away the brutal kill bonuses from DOOM, you’ll have to rely on your wits and exploration skills to collect health / armor power-ups as you blast through swarms of demons. Starting off in a basic, generic military base, the campaign skyrockets into more interesting level design by map two — where you’ll fight through a huge city-like environment.

Basically, this is an awesome mash-up of old-school aesthetics with new-school gameplay and guns. It’s especially strange jumping and mantling in these maps. It’s hard to deal with. Let’s continue into a different kind of old-school map with our next campaign pick.
