Now that Destiny 2 is free of Battle.net and available on Steam, there are a bunch of strange new issues PC players are experiencing on the platform.
Whether it’s weird mouse acceleration, inconsistent FPS, or full-on uninstallations when you’re not playing, these Steam-specific issues can actually be resolved in a few strange ways. Some of these problems are caused by the weirdest things — for example, you can improve your FPS by blocking your friends list. That isn’t normal.
Naturally, many of these problems can and will be addressed by Bungie in the future. The following guide is just a repository of community information, shared by passionate players, to help you resolve an annoying problem or two. We’re just trying to help.

How To Stop Auto-Uninstallation On Steam
For whatever reason, some players are forced to redownload Destiny 2 on Steam after a computer shuts down, or goes into sleep mode. As a temporary fix until Bungie patches in a permanent solution, you can just make sure you computer does not go into sleep mode.
To do this, you can simply change your Power Settings on a Windows 10 PC. For anyone else, you can just search for a 12 hour long video on YouTube and let it run (on Mute) all night. For the rest of us, here’s a simpler solution.
- Right-Click your Battery Icon on the lower-right corner of you screen on Windows 10. This is your Power Icon.
- Select ‘Power Options’ -> Select ‘Change Plan Settings’ -> Change ‘Put Computer To Sleep‘ settings to ‘Never‘.
How To Fix Mouse Smoothing / Frame Pacing In Fullscreen Mode
Strange mouse smoothing and frame pacing are both related to Fullscreen Optimizations. To resolve this issue, you’ll need to find the Destiny2.exe in your installation files.
- Right-click Destiny 2 in your Steam Library
- Open ‘Properties’ -> ‘Local Files’ -> ‘Browse Local Files’
- Find Destiny2.exe
Right-click Destiny2.exe and open ‘Properties’ -> Compatibility -> Check the box next to ‘Disable Fullscreen Optimization’. Click ‘Ok’ and you’re good to go.
How To Fix Microstutters
If your FPS is constantly dropping every few minutes on Steam, it might be caused by a very strange source — your friend list. If you have too many friends on your friends list, it might be causing sudden drops of FPS.
To solve the problem for now, you have two options; you can delete people from your friend’s list, or you can block them. Blocking them is temporary, and can be undone very quickly. Follow this link to select all your friends, and click [Block] to mass-block them. Then you can un-block them after a session.
