Early in Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll encounter a quest to hunt down five famous gunslingers for a writer. He wants you to find these famous shootists, interview them, snap a picture, and then duel them one last time. Too bad he doesn’t show you where to find them — you’ll need to track each gunfighter yourself, and that can get tricky.
Below, I’ll show all five locations you need to reach to find the gunslinger. On top of completing a stranger mission, you’ll also find special weapons carried by several of these old west legends that you can add to your arsenal. They’re only slight upgrades over standard weapons, but they are unique — and if you’re all about finding every weapon in the game, you’ll need these sidearms to complete the collection.

All 5 Gunslingers Locations | Stranger Mission Guide
To begin the Gunslinger quest, enter the smaller saloon in the town of Valentine in Chapter 2. The Stranger Mission will appear fairly early in your open-world adventuring, and you’ll see the icon every time you ride in or out of Valentine.
In the saloon, you’ll meet Theodore Levin — a writer from out east that’s working on a book. To help him, he’ll need you to meet five old gunslingers. He’ll give you photographs in your inventory. Examine them all and the gunslinger location will appear on your map.
Gunslinger #1: Emmet Granger
The first gunslinger is located just east of Flatneck Station, south of Valentine. There’s a farm on Flat Iron Lake — talk to him and he’ll ask you to help clean up around the farm. Do it, and defeat him in a duel to complete this stage of the quest. Don’t forget to snap a shot of him and loot his body to get Granger’s Revolver.
Gunslinger #2: Flaco Hernandez
Found up in the chilly Ambarino region, you’ll locate this outlaw at the shack out by Cairn Lake. You won’t just be fighting Flaco alone. He has a gang of ruffians to watch his back. Take them all down, snap a photo of Flaco, then loot the body to get yourself Flaco’s Revolver.
Gunslinger #3: Billy Midnight
This shootist extraordinaire is located in Rhodes. Go to the train station in the small town, west of St. Denis, and you’ll encounter Midnight on the train itself — in the bar car. You’ll have to chase the man onto the train car roof and duel him. Loot the body to get yourself Midnight’s Pistol. This is a Mauser, an automatic pistol, that’s available much earlier than the standard semi-auto sidearm.
Gunslinger #4: Black Belle
This rifle-toting belle of the ball is located north of St. Denis in Bluewater Marsh. When you arrive at her homestead, you’ll have to join forces and fight an incoming bad of bounty hunters. They’re equipped with a gatling gun, too. Take a snapshot, and move on — there’s no unique weapon to find here.
Gunslinger #5: Slim Grant
The last gunslinger on your list is back in Valentine. Return to the saloon after encountering the first four gunslingers in any order you choose. The final part of this Stranger Mission is only available as early as Chapter 4, so you might have to wait until certain events transpire in the story.
At the saloon, you’ll be sent to St. Denis to talk to Levin. They’re hanging out on a boat in port, and they’ll send you after one more notorious gunslinger up north. Slim Grant is located in a bandit camp near Annesburg. Talk to the Sheriff of Annesburg and he’ll point you in the right direction.
You’ll need to recapture Slim Grant and bring him back to Levin / Calloway. During the reunion, shooting ensues and you’ll have to take down Slim Grant yourself. Loot his body to get Calloway’s Revolver, a powerful Schofield variant.
