Super Mario Odyssey: How To Solve That New Hint Art Tweet | 8-Bit Luigi Easter Egg

March 15, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Nintendo hinted at a new secret in Super Mario Odyssey after tweeting out new Hint Art. Here’s where to go and find it 8-Bit Luigi.

Nintendo just can’t stop updating Super Mario Odyssey. After including a set of new costumes and a new Balloon-Hunting online minigame to Mario’s first adventure on the Nintendo Switch, now they’re doing the unthinkable — tweeting out difficult Hint Art puzzles. As if the Hint Art wasn’t tricky enough in the main game.

If you’ve played Super Mario Odyssey, you probably already know about Hint Art. Around every kingdom, you’ll stumble across paintings hanging on walls with cryptic clues to strange locations. Usually, these clues are extremely basic, breaking complex maps down to their base elements. It’s no different here. Unlike the usual Hint Art, the image Nintendo tweeted does not take you to a Power Moon. No, it brings you to something a little more interesting.

Okay, I’m going to spoil it here (because I already spoiled it in the title…) — it’s 8-Bit Luigi. 2D Luigi appears and gives you a bunch of coins. It’s totally optional, completely superfluous, but it’s an interesting tidbit in a game already jam-packed with tiny secrets. Let’s dive in and find the location.

Hint Art Guide | 8-Bit Luigi Easter Egg

This guide is all about tracking down the Hint Art mysteriously presented by Nintendo of America’s Twitter account. Here’s the Hint Art — any idea where this might be? You just need to find the X and stomp.

Still no clue? Let’s go find the spot.

  1. Go to the Sand Kingdom. If you’ve completed the story past the Sand Kingdom, the giant inverted pyramid will be floating high in the sky in the far horizon. That’s the big triangle!
  2. So what about the little triangle? Look left and you’ll see a small pyramid-shaped platform in the distance. That’s your smaller triangle in the Hint Art.
  3. Travel left from the Sand Kingdom starting point and stomp the ground directly (almost, sort of) in the middle of the shadow.

Keep trying, and 8-Bit Luigi will pop out of the ground! He’ll give you a bunch of coins, and you can interact with him in a few small ways. Throwing your hat will cause him to spin around and jump, while stomping him again will make him yelp and fly up before floating back down to the ground.
