The humanoid Sahelanthropus is a critical plot point in the story for Metal Gear Survive, and it’s time we find the remains. The trek up to the final resting place of Sahelanthropus is a long one — you’ll have to stop and use three Transporters total just to reach it. There’s also a literal army of undead, including the new Mortar monster that spews explosive grenade shells and unleashes a machine gun barrage from long-distance.
Of course, this isn’t the canonical resting place for Sahelanthropus. Honestly, I don’t even know how the Sahelanthropus got to this particular location in Africa. I doubt much thought was put into continuity. Really, all you need to know is that Sahelanthropus has a cool gun that’s strong enough to damage the Lord of Dust. Your final goal is destroying the Lord of Dust. It all adds up.

Objective: Investigate Sahelanthropus
You heard that right. There’s only one weapon that can defeat the Lord of Dust – Sahelanthropus, the enormous, Metal Gear that appeared in the original Phantom Pain. It’s a long and dangerous trek to his location, so you’ll want to stock up – get water from the river and cook it clean, hunt animals at marked locations, and stop at the Transporter 03 location at the halfway mark.
Teleport to Transporter 02 and move into the Dust toward your objective – there’s a Walker Gear outside a camp you can’t miss. Grab it and use it to help clear the way to Transporter 03 further up the road. Stick to the road, you can’t miss it. And you absolutely must have it.
Further ahead, you’ll face a solid wall of deadly enemies. Wanderers are everywhere, and there are Trackers mixed in with the bunch. You’ll also face a new enemy; Mortars. These hulking brutes take tons of damage and launch explosive grenades from their weird arm-orifices. They can also shield themselves, so wait for them to attack, then blast them in the head.
There are lots of large containers on the path, but ignore them for now. It’s too tough to collect these when there are enemies everywhere. Instead, fight to the Transporter and then begin clearing everything around the small outpost. Before activating it, clear all the Bombers, Mortars, and Trackers with the Walker Gear. Even if you run out of ammo, you can use a ramming melee attack that kills most enemies in a single hit.
When the area is mostly clear, activate the transporter. Use the new Spiked Barricade defense units to block the opening near the river, and raid the base interior for plenty of gunpowder boxes. Return home to prepare for a second expedition to reach Sahelanthropus.
At the Transporter 03 base, you’ll find a recipe for the Oxygen Supply Camp Unit in the large container. You can carry one of these in your inventory, allowing you to replenish oxygen even outside the base. Once it is placed, it will remain and you can return to it over and over – but enemies can destroy it.
When you’re ready, follow the rive northeast toward Sahelanthropus from Transporter 03. Stay on the left-hand side and move up, avoiding Wanderers, Trackers, and Watchers. They like to hang out around ruins or structures.
Move to the transporter base just outside the main mission search area. There are Bombers on the outskirts, but it shouldn’t be a problem to take and return home. Place barricades and loot the outpost – it’s full of gunpowder. We’re almost (finally) ready to reach the main objective.
From Transporter 04, move into the nearby Clear Zone for a view of the valley. Thankfully, there’s some food here you can hunt if you’re low on hunger. Approach the corpse of the Metal Gear near the Transporter base in the Clear Zone. Investigate the cockpit, and you’ll encounter the insane Charon Corps soldier Dan.
After the encounter, he runs off – leaving you with nothing. Time to return to base. Use the nearby inactive Transporter base. When you activate it, Mortars and new gunner Wanderers will spawn on the hills outside the base. Build several walls to block regular Wanderers from getting in, and use the two mortar turrets to shoot down the Mortar zombies.
You can also take cover and simply kick away the mortar shells before they explode when they land near your transporter. Get close and you can hide behind the water tower, kicking away explosives until the sequence is complete. This one is pretty intense. If you survive, return to base and access Virgil to learn what to do next with Sahelanthropus.
