Modern Warfare 3: Mutation Mode and Abilities Explained

September 13, 2024 by Lauren Sayles

Fight off the supernatural.

Every year, Call of Duty gets The Haunting event and the frights will return when MW3 and Warzone Season 6 goes live. Among the new batch of content are harrowing game modes, including a Mutation mode. If you want to know what this playlist entails ahead of time, we’ve got all the details.

In the Mutation mode, you’ll take turns playing as humans and mutants. Players on the mutant side will get access to unique abilities, while regular Operators will get more resources to counter the supernatural abilities.

How to play the MW3 Mutation mode

Human Operators have higher ammo reserves and killstreaks enabled, while mutants wield one of four classes:

  • Mutated Leaper: Leap at your enemies and become enraged, gaining faster movement speed and melee damage along with the ability to detect enemies around corners. Toss a Snapshot Grenade to reveal foes to your team.
  • Radioactive Beast: Charge your enemies as a half dog, half demon. Howl to improve the health and movement speed of your allies and use your enhanced senses to reveal nearby enemies on the minimap.
  • Contaminated Sludger: The Sludger obscures sightlines with a Smoke Grenade and can attack enemies with a close-ranged acid blast that pools on the ground and slows its victims. Explode in a large radius of mutant sludge, taking your foes down with you.
  • Camouflaged Sneaker: Become partially invisible and stun and slow enemies with a lethal energy projectile. When it’s time to break stealth and attack, scramble at your enemies with an electrified leap.

Whether you prefer to adopt an aggressive or tactical playstyle, there’s an ability to suit everyone. Whatever class you use, it appears that mutants will have a significant amount of power on their side.

The Mutation variant will take place on a moshpit of modes. Those in the mutant role who achieve a high number of kills have the chance to unleash chaos as the Mutant Juggernaut.

MW3 and Warzone Season 6 will launch on September 18, 2024.
