There are a lot of systems to keep straight in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Over the length of the game’s massive tutorial phase, players are taught about a countless number of systems, one of them being cooking with Manana and learning new recipes. While the food system is really straightforward, its tutorial gets a little lost in the noise of everything else that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has going on.
If you’ve played a significant portion of the game and still only have the one recipe that Manana knows by default, you may be left scratching your head about where you could be learning new recipes. If that’s you, you’re certainly not alone as the cooking and learning recipes tutorial came sandwiched between crucial mechanic tutorials like how to use Fusion Arts and change characters in battle. Take a look at the guide below to learn everything you need to know about cooking and learning new recipes.

How to Cook
Cooking in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is easy. All you’ll need to do is head to a campsite and rest. At the campsite, you’ll be given a handful of options on what you can do like clean your clothes, craft gems, discuss new topics, and cook. Simply select the “cook” option represented in-game by a big soup pot and you’ll be brought over to a menu with a list of all known recipes. You’ll have one known by default and if you’re looking to learn more, check out the section below.
To actually cook something, you’ll need to have the required materials or enough Nopon Coins to bypass the requirements. After eating, your entire party will be given a buff that lasts for a set amount of time. Because of this, it’s always a good idea to by cooking and eating as often as you can so that you constantly have advantageous buffs applied at all times.
How to Learn New Recipes
Luckily, similar to cooking, learning new recipes is also extremely simple. Starting in Chapter 3, you’ll gain the ability to go and visit new colonies from both Keves and Agnus. In the colonies, you’ll find plenty to do, but the important thing for learning new recipes is visiting the local canteen.
Canteens, taverns, and other such restaurants serve as rest spots similar to campsites. Unlike campsites, however, your options on what you can do are much more limited. Instead of cooking, you’re able to order food from the kitchen for Gold. After ordering a dish, not only will your entire party receive a nice stat buff, but Manana will learn the recipe and you can recreate it at any campsite in the future.
