Pokemon GO: How To Check IVs | New Update Makes Checking IVs Much Easier

July 16, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Learn all about the new Appraisal System here, including how to search for different star ratings.

Pokémon: GO is unveiling a new patch that changes how you’ll check your Pokémon’s IVs — the new Appraisal System lets you easily check the hidden stats for your Pokémon, and even compare by swiping left and right to scroll through your many, many Pokémon. This is all included in the 0.149.0 Update — which is out now on Android, and should be releasing soon on iOS.

IVs, or Individual Values, or hidden properties that are randomly generated for each Pokémon. A Pokémon with better IVs can have more attack, defense, and HP. It’s all up to the luck of the draw, and IVs will slowly increase as you play with your Pokémon. The system is similar to the Appraisal system in Pokémon Sun and Moon — you’ll be able to quickly see your IVs, and compare with your other Pokémon. It’s important to get the best IVs from your individual Pokémon — not every Pokémon is created equal, after all.

How To Check IVs | New Update Makes Checking IVs Much Easier

The new IV Checking System, called the Appraisal System, shows your Pokémon’s Individual Values (IVs) when you check them in your Pokedex. The values are represented by three bars — Attack, Defense, and HP.

Depending on how full the bars are, your Pokemon be given a 1-3 Star Rating. You can organize your Pokémon depending on how many stars they have, you just need to use specific search terms.

To search for Pokémon in your Pokedex with specific star ratings, use the following search terms.

  • Pokedex Star Search Terms:
    • 0*
    • 1*
    • 2*
    • 3*
    • 4*

Pokémon with 1 Star are at about 50%+ meter. 2 Stars are at about 65%+. 3 Stars are 80%+. 4 Stars are full, at 100% meter.

Now you can quickly organize and select your best Pokémon based on their star rating, and easily compare / contrast to find which of your captured Pokémon are the best.
