The Ice Caves are one of the last areas in Spelunky 2 — and one of the most annoying. Before you can exit and reach the end of your adventures, you’ll have to complete a special Yeti sub-area that’s pretty difficult. But there’s a way to skip that sub-area and move on with your (probably short) life.
Normally this area can only be accessed with a jetpack or a parachute. The fall is so long, you’ll die if you try to reach the alternate exit any other way. But there’s a trick you can use to drop down and still survive. You’ll have to hang from a ledge, then drop directly to another ledge. If you grab a ledge, you don’t take any damage no matter how long you fall. Pretty cool, right?

To skip the Yeti sub-area, you’ll need to reach the level exit to the Ice Caves in 4-2.
- Beneath the level exit, there is always a 1 or 2 block wide platform.
- The level exit will always be inside a small cave. The cave will naturally open from the left or right.
- Hang off the small platform beneath the level exit — and hang off the side of the level exit cave that opens up.
- Drop directly down and you’ll grab the ledge far below with the alternate level exit nearby.
It sounds complicated, but it’s very simple. This strategy makes it so you don’t need a Cape, Jetpack, or Parachute to reach the alternate exit and escape the Yeti cave area.
The only downside is that bombs or other traps / enemies might destroy the blocks around the level exit, making it more difficult to tell which side has an opening, or just wreck the platform you need to drop from.
