Dead Space Remake introduces new Side Missions that you can take part in as you attempt to survive the horrors of the USG Ishimura. These Side Missions delve into the backstory of the Necromorph outbreak and the eventual fall of the mining vessel. Each one also comes with an Achievement for completing them. One of these Side Missions is called Premeditated Malpractice and delves into the story of one of the game’s most fearsome and dangerous monsters. This guide will provide players with a walkthrough on how to complete the Premeditated Malpractice Side Mission in Dead Space Remake.
How To Complete The Premeditated Malpractice Side Mission In Dead Space Remake
The Premeditated Malpractice Side Mission explores the backstory of Brant Harris, a miner on the Aegis VII that is exposed to the Marker and becomes the subject of Dr. Mercer’s experiments, eventually becoming the regenerating Hunter. This Side Mission can be started at the end of Chapter 5: Lethal Devotion/ beginning of Chapter 6: Environmental Hazard after you cryogenically freeze the Hunter. The Side Mission can be completed at the earliest in Chapter 7: Into the Void. It is important to note that this mission can be started at any point in the game before the Point of No Return at the end of Chapter 11: Alternate Solutions.
Side Mission Start: Pick Up Hunter Tissue Sample
After freezing the Hunter at the end of Chapter 5, enter the cryo chamber to find a tissue sample that the creature left behind. This will officially begin the Premeditated Malpractice Side Mission. When you pick it up, Daniels will call you to tell you to scan it.
Objective #1: Scan the Tissue Sample
In Medical, head to the main lab near Nicole’s office on the area’s first floor. On a shelf at the location shown below, you will find a machine that can scan the tissue sample you picked up. The scan will let you know that the Hunter is Brent Harris and will task you with tracking his previous locations, allowing you to get the history of the creature.
Objective #2: Find Harris’ ICU Bed
The first stop is still found in Medical, this time in the Intensive Care Unit found o the fourth floor of the area. There is a large glass structure that has clearly been violently torn apart by something massive. Approach it to play a hologram recording of Harris and Mercer. Harris, who has been convinced by Mercer to become his Hunter, is seen getting a procedure done before being told to go down to Ore Storage and steal some minerals.
Objective #3: Investigate Ore Storage
You will need to progress to Chapter 7: Into the Void to gain access to the Mining wing of the Ishimura. Once here, make your way to Ore Storage which is found all the way at the end of the hallways guarded by lasers. Once inside, look to the left of the entrance to find a Security Terminal blocked by some boxes. Move them with Kinesis to interact with the Terminal to hear a miner calling security about Harris stealing this from the Storage. Harris responded by shoving the worker into the nearby Suit Kiosk and watching the machine tear him apart, which you can see the aftermath of nearby.
Objective #4: Find Report on the Bridge
On the Bridge, you can find a hologram recording of Nicole discussing the Ore Storage incident with Captain Mathius and asking to have Mercer give Harris back to her as the miner used to be her patient. The captain, a Unitologist like Mercer, calls this vendetta Nicole has against Mercer to be due to her hatred for the religion and points out that he knows she is helping people aboard the ship leave the Church. Nicole points out that Mercer doesn’t even treat Harris in the Medical bay and asks the Captain what Mercer is doing to him in Hydroponics. When she gets no answers, she pleas with the Captain to try and help Harris, but again to no avail.
Objective #5: Investigate Hydroponics
In Hydroponics, you can now access the Nutrition Systems and Diagnostics Lab on the third floor. The Nutrition Systems is filled with toxic gas, so make your way through to the Diagnostics Lab as quickly as possible. Here, you will find an audio log of Mercer and Harris discussing the final regeneration of Harris that turns him into the Hunter we see now.
On the workbench to the left of the log is an upgraded Stasis Module that will fully freeze enemies hit by it, similar to how Mercer froze Isaac in place during Chapter 5.
After you finish listening to the audio log, you will complete the Premeditated Malpractice Side Mission and will be completed and you will unlock the Final Regeneration Achievement in Dead Space Remake.
