Polterpup (Luigi’s Mansion 3)
It’s best not to consider the implications of Polterpup, let’s just focus on the facts: Polterpup is a hilarious impish canine that can also revive his chosen friend Luigi with spectral dog snacks. Polterpup isn’t just an adorable dog; he’s also totally mischievous, jumping through walls and generally freaking out Luigi constantly. It just goes to show how terrible Luigi is — he can’t even properly appreciate one of the cutest dogs in gaming.
Poochy (Yoshi’s Crafted World)
And next, we’re talking about the #1 dog in the Mario series — well, technically the Yoshi series. Poochy is a massive pup that originally appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. Now you’ll find the lumbering lummox of a dog in 2019’s Yoshi’s Crafted World. The dog is both friend and foe — you’ll need to lead Poochy through dangerous traps, but you can’t quite control him. Poochy is one of my favorite creatures in gaming, and his super-cute yarn amiibo solidifies Poochy as a top-tier Mario dog.
