Cuphead: How To Defeat Root Pack | Boss Guide

September 29, 2017 by Dennis Patrick

Everything you need to know when battling the Root Pack.

Cuphead, developed by StudioMDHR Entertainment, is a run and gun platform indie title. Overall, the narrative follows Cuphead and his brother Mugman, as they end up making a terrible bet against the devil. Losing the bet, Cuphead and Mugman are forced to give their souls to the devil, but it seems that our protagonist duo can save themselves if they go out and collect debts.

The devil has a number of souls that are owed to him by other sorrowful cartoon characters. If Cuphead and Mugman can go out and collect all the souls then the devil may just allow them to keep their own souls in return. However, debt collecting is easier said than done, both Cuphead and Mugman will have a difficult road ahead of themselves.

Most of the game is based around boss battles and each can be rather difficult to go through. However, if you need a hand then look no further, we’re here to offer a guide on how to defeat each boss in the video game.

You will want to take notice that the game will force players to go through boss battles in regular mode in order to claim the souls. If you’re having a difficult time defeating a boss then go through the simple mode a few times to get the hang of things before attempting the regular session which will up the difficulty.

Without further ado, check out the boss guide down below along with our other boss guides for Cuphead.

The Root Pack Boss Guide

The Root Pack is broken down into three mini battles which features a potato, turnip, and lastly, a carrot. As such, we’ll break down the boss guide in order you’ll come again down below.

Potato
The potato will be the first thing you’ll be facing up against which will be stationary. Standing on the right hand side of the screen, you’ll have to dodge its objects spit towards you which there will be a total of four each time. Simply jump between them or dash above and keep firing at it until the potato goes down.
Note: The spit fire will have a sudden speed increase. It’s best that you jump and dash as jumping between the items at its increased velocity speed will be difficult.

Turnip
The turnip is next and this boss battle is actually a whole lot easier than the potato which was already an easy battle to deal with. You’ll find that the turnip will poke through the ground at the middle of the level. Before it pokes out, decide if you wish to stay on the left or right hand side, it won’t matter, you’ll just need to avoid the middle before it sprouts up.
This turnip has a unique attack in which it will cry out. Keep firing at the turnip and stare upwards to move your character avoiding the tear drops.

Carrot
The last boss to fight in the Root Pack is the carrot which will sprout in the middle background and as such you can move around the entire level without running into the boss. This carrot will have the ability to summon homing carrot missiles, which can be destroyed by firing at them. All the while, you’ll need to fire at the carrot’s face to damage it. After a period of the fight, the carrot will unleash a beam attack, there’s a clear cue when the boss will start to fire the beam attacks. When you notice the cue, simply move around as the beams will fire your way but are not homing.
