Apex Legends Mobile is an exciting new entry in the series that opens the free-to-play battle royale up to just about anyone with a smartphone. The mobile version of the game takes nearly all of the console/PC versions’ mechanics and systems and faithfully ports them to phones. That said, while they could generally be described as “the same game,” there are a few key differences separating them with the biggest being the exclusive to mobile new Legend, Fade.
Up until Apex Legends Mobile‘s release, Fade was something of a mystery, but now that they’re able to be unlocked, players have been given free rein to give him a try. When it comes to deciding if a player should play as Fade, they should consider what sort of role they want to have in each match. Fade is classified as an Assault Legend and his abilities certainly reflect that.

Fade Ability Breakdown
Fade, like the rest of Apex Mobile‘s character roster, is kitted with three unique abilities that set him apart from the rest of the crowd: Slipstream (his passive,) Flash Back (his tactical,) and Phase Chamber (his ultimate.) While none of his abilities directly deal a lot of damage to enemies, they still give players a tactical advantage in other regards.
The new Legend’s passive ability, Slipstream, is extremely straightforward: after coming out of a slide, Fade is given a speed boost rivaling Octane for becoming the fastest playable character. Unfortunately, the ability is on a 10-second cooldown meaning that he isn’t able to be gunning it at all times like Octane is, but he’s still extraordinarily fast which can mean quickly getting to cover or pushing back against enemies when in a firefight.
Fade’s tactical ability, Flash Back, is essentially the same as Tracer’s Recall move from Overwatch. Fade is able to retract his position in time a few seconds meaning that he can quickly get himself out of trouble and reposition if things break bad. This means he can also do a little bit of scouting inside buildings by entering, seeing if there are enemies, and then pulling out. The ability is on a 20-second cooldown so players need to timeout how frequently they’re reversing time.
The Phase Chamber Ultimate Ability will likely take players a little while to truly get the hang of. When activated, Fade throws a Phase Chamber that acts like a grenade, but instead of dealing major damage, it transports everyone hit by it into the void. This immediately marks them on the map and temporarily blocks most of their abilities like firing their weapons, using abilities, and healing.
The catch is that it also makes them invulnerable while affected meaning that players will need to wait for the effects to wear off before taking them down. This will help players confuse and scatter enemies, disrupting plans and setting themselves up for an easy victory. It does require your team to have some coordination so that they can quickly pick off the enemy squad once they become vulnerable again. That said, Phase Chamber can be devastating to enemy teams if used properly.
