Pokemon Quest: How To Build The Best Team & Crush The Final Boss | 12-Boss Guide

July 10, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Struggling with the end-game in Pokémon Quest? Some teams are better than others, and these are the very best teams (and attacks) we’ve found so far.

Pokémon Quest doesn’t pull punches in the final stretch. You’ll need to grind for a very, very long time — or you’ll need to build the perfect team. This is kind of a dual guide — here, I’m going to go through all the very best team combinations and abilities. You build an awesome team at any point in the game, but you’ll only really need it for the very end. That’s the part people have the most trouble completing, but these Pokémon and powers are useful at any stage in your quest.

First of all, attack powers aren’t actually the most useful abilities in Pokémon Quest. If you increase your strength with Power Stones, your standard attacks are usually enough to conquer any foe. No — the real challenge in the later levels is just keeping your Pokémon Quest team alive. It isn’t a bad idea to bring multiple healers and support Pokémon. Stun abilities are also really strong, but nothing seems to beat a good offense — Bulk Up and a certain attack power blow everything else out of the water. Let’s break down all the best team recommendations, and don’t forget to drop your own ideas in the comments section below.

How To Build The Best Team & Crush The Final Boss | 12-Boss Guide

There are different types of teams in Pokémon Quest — and the most “basic” of the group is the standard team you should always aim for once you’ve hit the mid-game content. That’s a team with DPS (damage per second), a tank for defense, and a support for buffs or healing.

Standard Team: DPS, Tank & Support

  • Moltres  / Mewtwo (DPS)
  • Machamp (Support)
  • Gengar (Tank)

This isn’t the best team, but it is a good example of a standard, strong team you can use to win almost any fight. Use Moltres for damage, Machamp for Bulk Up to do extra damage, and Gengar for defense.

You can swap these characters out for a variety of different Pokémon. One of the best is a strong Mewtwo — that guy can crush just about anything one he’s leveled up and given plenty of Power Stones.

  • Recipes List:
    • Ambrosia of Legends (For Mewtwo / Moltres)
      • 5 Mystic Shells / 3 or 4 Mystic Shells + Anything
    • Get Swole (For Machamp):
      • 2 Honey, 1 Berry, 1 Tiny Mush, 1 Balm Mush
    • Sludge Soup (For Gastly, Evolves Into Gengar)
      • 2 Balm Mush, 2 Tiny Mush, 1 Big Root / Rainbow Matter
      • 3 Balm Mush, 1 Tiny Mush, 1 Rainbow Matter

The Double Hydro-Pump [BEST TEAM]

  • Seadro / Starmie (Hydro Pump DPS)
  • Golduck / Starmie (Hydro Pump DPS)
  • Machamp (Bulk Up Buff)

Very, very simple. If you keep Hydro Pump active for the entire Expedition, you can basically win the final boss battle and stop annoying Pokémon from getting too close to your characters. Machamp makes them stronger with Bulk Up, and your water-type Pokémon can keep spamming Hydro Pump — just stagger it so it’s (usually) always up, instead of popping both at the same time.

This is (basically) the best team in the game. Two Hydro Pump Starmies, and a Machamp for even more damage. It’s the best route to take for easy victories.

  • Recipes List:
    • Mouth-Watering Dip (For Water Type):
      • 1 Icy Rock, 2 Berries, 2 Honey
      • 1 Icy Rock, 2 Berries, 1 Honey, 1 Big Root
    • Get Swole (For Machamp):
      • 2 Honey, 1 Berry, 1 Tiny Mush, 1 Balm Mush

The Double Healers

  • Snorlax (Tank)
  • Lapras (Heal)
  • Alakazam (Heal)

This unorthodox team is one of the best, especially if you want to play Expeditions with Auto on. Nothing too complicated here — Snorlax is your tank, while Lapras and Alakazam have Hit Heal, allowing your team to survive just about anything the game can throw at you.

  • Recipes List:
    • Plain Crepe (For Snorlax):
      • 1 Honey, 2 Berries, 2 Balm Mush
      • 2 Honey, 1 Berry, 2 Balm Mush
      • 3 Honey, 2 Balm Mush
    • Mouth-Watering Dip (For Water Type):
      • 1 Icy Rock, 2 Berries, 2 Honey
      • 1 Icy Rock, 2 Berries, 1 Honey, 1 Big Root
    •  Brain Food (For Alakazam):
      • 1 Fossil, 3 Honey, 1 Icy Rock
