Sony has made a surprising hardware launch in its native Japan.
As reported by Gematsu, Sony launched a Japan-only Midnight Black SKU for the PS5. As you can imagine, its panels have been switched around to complete black, and the controller is black too.
This PS5 model is set up in such a way that it will only use Japanese PlayStation accounts, and you probably won’t be able to switch the language settings either.
It also appears to be a limited release as pre-orders are only available at online stores and official PlayStation stores on October 30. The console actually releases on November 19.
Of course, some fans will dislike that you have to buy a disc drive separately, but at least Sony made one that’s matching black. But perhaps new buyers will object to Sony not making new PS5 Pro consoles with the Midnight Black color.
But then again, if you’re outside Japan, you could always get some Darkplates or other aftermarket solutions to change your console’s appearance to all black, regardless of the model.
