Nintendo of Europe has given us our first look at the Switch 2’s replaceable batteries.

Last July, Nintendo officially announced they would start selling products with replaceable batteries, to comply with European regulations. As Nintendo disclosed, Switch 2 consoles with replaceable batteries will be slightly heavier, and the batteries themselves will have slightly less capacity.
Last week FCC patent filings hinted that Nintendo will also sell some of these controllers with replaceable batteries to the US. But now we’re looking at the consoles again.
Nintendo’s user guide to replace Switch 2 batteries is found here. As you can see in our preview picture, you can physically remove and replace the battery yourself.
But this guide also demonstrates that you’ll have to remove the screws all around the console, including the sides where you connect the Joy-Cons. When you get access to the battery, it will also expose part of some circuit boards and other components.
So yes, there’s a real risk you could damage your console while replacing your battery. Nintendo complying with EU regulations didn’t lead them to finding a solution to this.
You can learn more by going through the guide.
