Super Mario Odyssey: Everything That Unlocks After You Finish The Story

October 27, 2017 by Kevin Thielenhaus

When Prince Peach is saved, there’s still a ton of stuff to do. Here’s a quick list of just about everything that happens after the credits roll.

Even after putting an end to Bowser’s evil schemes and saving the princess in Super Mario Odyssey, you’ll still have a ton of stuff to do. New areas will unlock, and new challenges will appear after completing every step of the story, and it can be overwhelming when you first reach the end-game.

Whether you’ve finished the story or you’re planning on diving into Super Mario Odyssey soon, you might want to know what’s waiting after the credits. Spoiler alert — there’s a lot left to discover.

New kingdoms, new costumes, and new challenges are just a few of the many unlocks after you beat up Bowser and his gang. There are challenge areas, huge homages to previous adventures, and cool character to meet. Let’s dive in and see what’s left to experience.

Everything That Unlocks After You Finish The Story

There’s more of everything after the end of the game’s campaign. More moons, more kingdoms, and more outfits — we’ll break down all the best stuff first, then try to explain the rest.

  • Post-Game Unlocks:
    • Every kingdom will have more moons to collect.
    • The Mushroom Kingdom will unlock.
      • You can find and capture Yoshi!
    • Wedding Costumes (Amiibo) can be purchased at Crazy Cap stores.
    • Two new kingdoms can be unlocked.
      • The Dark Side of the Moon (250 Moons)
      • The Darker Side of the Moon (500 Moons)
    • New NPC challenges and collectible hunts.
    • And lots, lots more.

After finished the story, you’ll find that every kingdom has been expanded. There are more moons, new areas, new NPCs (with new moon-rewarding missions) and generally more activities to complete. Many times, calamities that previously blocked Mario from exploring a zone are removed, allowing you to fully play kingdoms that were too treacherous.

Princess Peach, instead of sticking around in the Mushroom Kingdom, has moved out, going on a lengthy vacation to each and every kingdom in the game. Find her to earn bonus moons — and don’t miss out on the rooftop Yoshi you can capture. The entire Mushroom Kingdom is a homage to Super Mario 64 and its hub world, complete with rooms copied almost verbatim from that Nintendo classic.

Previously locked wedding costumes will also be available to purchase for a steep gold coin cost. You can unlock wedding costumes for free with amiibo, or just spend a few coins. If you’re busy hunting for moons, you’ll also find two optional, extra Kingdoms that are extremely challenging — the Dark Side and the Darker Side. You’ll need to collect 250 moons and 500 moons to unlock these areas.

Luckily, there are dozens of moons you can collect (or purchase) when you return to previous worlds. New NPCs, not just Princess Peach, inhabit all those old kingdoms, so you have every reason to go for a return trip.
