How to Complete the “Conflict in Conviction” Main Story Quest in Starfield: Shatted Space
To start “Conflict in Conviction,” you must follow the Quest Marker that leads to the “Assist House Vath’aal” part of the “Aligning the Houses” Main Story Quest. This marker will take you to the Keep Armory. Go up the stairs to the right of the entrance and then turn left to find the Command sector of the Armory. You will find a character named Viktor Vath’aal. Talk to him and you’ll learn his son, Vaeric, is missing. Once the dialogue with Viktor is complete, “Conflict in Conviction” will begin.
Go to the Herald’s Rest bar and ask the marked NPCs about Vaeric. You will be prompted to perform Persuasion checks to try and get information about Vaeric. If you succeed in one of these checks, you’ll learn of another character named Tane Salavea who can help you find Vaeric. Even if you fail all of the Persuasion checks, just wait at the bar and Tane will appear.
With Tane now helping, follow the objective marker to the northwest of Darza City. Head out the northwest gate of the city and Tane will activate his tracker, leading to the Abandoned Camp in the mountains northwest of the city limits.
Once in the camp, you need to search for clues on Vaeric’s whereabouts which can be done by finding 4 items and interacting with them. These items are the Tracker, Bloodstain, Vortex Spawn, and Footprints. The Tracker is next to the bed under the leftmost canopy tent, the Bloodstain is on a large rock under the tents at the right part of the camp, the Vortex Spawn are found at the left end of the camp, and the Footprints are found directly to the right of the Vortex Spawn. When everything is interacted with, a wave of Vortex Horrors will spawn. Defeat them all to continue the Quest.
With the horrors defeated, talk to Tane and then follow the objective marker to another set of footprints. These will lead you to Irina’s Farm.
At the farm is the eponymous Irina and her fellow farmhands. Question her about Vaeric’s whereabouts and she will tell you to go to the abandoned farm known as the Apostate’s Refuge.
Head inside Apostate’s Refuge and search through Vaeric’s dwellings. You can find one of his logs on a table on the second floor and can then find 3 additional logs on his computer.
With these logs acquired, go back outside and talk to Tane. While in the middle of your conversation, Vaeric will arrive and hold you at gunpoint. You can either spare him and have him give you his rings as proof of death to lie to his father, you can kill him and take the ring, or you can kill him and Tane which leads to the same outcome as just killing Vaeric while also stopping Tane from becoming a companion, or you can perform a Persuasion check to have Vaeric return to the Keep and reunite with his father.
No matter your choice, return to the Armory Keep and talk to Viktor. If you were given or took Vaeric’s ring, give it to Viktor. If you persuade Vaeric to return to the Keep, he will be there with Viktor and will be welcomed back to House Vath’aal. Once the conversation with Viktor concludes, go to Ekris Kaisir to conclude the “Conflict of Conviction” Main Story Quest. You will get Credits and 350 EXP for completing the mission.
