Persona 3 Reload balances its life-sim and JRPG elements pretty darn well, but getting lax on your training will eventually lead to your demise. Tartarus is not the most interesting of places. This is mostly due to its procedurally generated dungeon format. Despite that, it is something you have to trundle through if you want to get through the game.
The further you ascend, the harder it gets. Reach certain floors and you will bump into powerful boss encounters. Reaching Floor 35 will pit you against the dreaded, ‘Heretic Magus’ and his sentient demon tables. This fight can be a bit tricky and it introduces some new gimmicks, but once you know what you are doing, you can get through without too much hassle.

How Heretic Magus Attacks In Persona 3 Reload
Heretic Magus is a wind wizard and a pretty darn powerful one at that. They have access to Garu, Magaru (the AOE variant), and the powerful single-target Garula. This is a pretty big problem because Junpei, one of your primary damage dealers, is weak to wind.
Add to this the two Grievous Tables, and you start to get into some trouble. Grievous Tables have access to Poisma which inflicts the poison ailment. This deals damage over time but can be easily treated with Persona skills from Yukari and the MC as well as items.
How To Defeat Heretic Magus
Heretic Magus can be defeated with three characters, and this will likely be how you will face Heretic Magus if you went straight into Tartarus after the last Full Moon. If this is what has happened in your game, then have Junpei Block the entire time. This will prevent wind attacks from stunning him.
Next, you need Yukari to work on healing duty. Media, Dia, and any form of poison removal will be key. Finally, your MC should have access to a Persona who is not weak to wind and has access to both ice and electric attacks. Use ice on the Grievous Tables and electric on the Heretic Magus to knock them down and trigger an All-Out Attack.
If you were patient and waited until Akihiko had recovered from his injuries, you would have a fourth character in this fight. Akihiko is great because he adds an additional source of damage. More importantly, Akihiko deals electric damage, making him the perfect candidate for knocking down Heretic Magus.
Follow the same steps as above, only now you can get through the fight noticeably faster as Akihiko also improves the damage output of your All-Out-Attacks.
With Heretic Magus taken down you are free to continue your ascent… although don’t get too comfortable. There is another boss on the next floor, and there is no healing. Be sure to check out our other guides to help with that boss, and for other helpful tips and tricks for Persona 3 Reload.
