Starfield: Best Powers, Ranked

October 11, 2023 by Adam Carr

Once you unlock your latent powers in Starfield, everything changes. In this list we rank the best powers you can unlock.

Table of Contents[Hide][Show]
  • Phased Time
  • Eternal Harvest/Elemental Pull
  • Anti-Gravity Field
  • Parallel Self
  • Precognition
  • Supernova

Once you have unlocked powers in Starfield, everything changes. Combat goes from a fairly standard shooter experience with light gravity mechanics to mind-bending, physics-defying bouts of creativity and spectacle. Powers are the main reason you want to progress what is otherwise a fairly run-of-the-mill story.

Of course, not all powers are combat-focused, and with 24 to unlock and mess around with, you have options erupting from every space-crevice. In this list we are going to go over the 6 best powers you can use in Starfield, and why. Keep tight hold of your artefacts, because these powers are amazing.

Phased Time

Phased Time is easily the best power in all of Starfield. It allows you to slow down time and obliterate everything in sight without fear of being shot to pieces in return. Phased Time is like uber-bullet time, and it completely changes how you approach combat. So why is it at the sixth spot? Well, that’s because you don’t get access to Phased Time until much later in the game. It’s practically an ‘end game’ power, which means you are going to have to wait a long time if you want to get your grubby mitts on it.

Eternal Harvest/Elemental Pull

Eternal Harvest and Elemental Pull are two peas in a pod. They are both incredibly powerful utility powers that breaks open the crafting system like a pinata. Eternal Harvest lets you replenish materials instantly, which means you can forage said materials without having to explore entire planets. Elemental Pull functionally replaces your Cutter and allows you to harvest minerals substantially faster. With these two powers combined. We couldn’t decide which was better, so we clumped them together. That being said, if crafting isn’t your thing, avoid these like the plague.

Anti-Gravity Field

This is the first power you will gain access to, and it’s one of the best. In short, this power lets you incapacitate enemies near you by lifting them into the air. From here you are free to blow out their brains with a shotgun, making combat pretty darn easy. The power won’t work on all enemies, but it is incredibly reliable for shutting down hordes of chaff, letting you focus on more important threats.

Parallel Self

There are a surprising number of powers in Starfield that make you harder to kill. Our favourite has to be Parallel Self. This power summons a clone and that clone runs around and distracts enemies like an absolute king. Sure, you could just take a resistance-based power, but we found that avoiding damage together by having a clone take shots for us was far more effective in most situations.

Precognition

If you want to be a sneaky sleuth, then Precognition is a must-have power. This power lets you target NPCs and see their intended travel path. This makes avoiding guards, enemies, and just about everything, easier. Then you have its secondary effect when in conversations. Instead of trying to predict how people will react to your actions, you can now perceive their future response, making you everyone’s best friend, forever.

Supernova

We couldn’t leave this list without a balls-to-the-wall combat ability, now could we? Supernova is the power you use when the nuclear option is all that’s left. When things are looking spicey, you pop this bad boy and everyone dies. Well, almost everyone. Supernova has the power to erase the health bars from low and mid-tier enemies, and this alone makes combat far easier. Once you eliminate the scrubs, you can focus on the big guys, and without their support, these big guys go down so much easier. Leave nothing but ashes in your wake, traveller.

That’s all we have on Starfield for now. Be sure to check out our other guides, lists, and walkthroughs for more Starfield content.
